Lanata is one of the strongest warriors in the clan, stronger even than her Matriarch, Renyor. In claw-to-claw combat, she is second to none, and equal only to Marnhi. her brother in arms. She is mated to Aqua, and together they raise their adopted daughter, Atala. Her egg was discovered in the Crystal Pools, stolen by one of the mammoth Jesters that calls the territory its home. The Coliseum is where Lanata can usually be found, where she battles the many monsters and hostile peoples that infest it, seeking nothing more than safety and food for her clan. But while her intentions in the Coliseum are for her Clan's benefit, there are others that seek to go beyond these simple mortal needs. She has seen countless younglings far afield, training recklessly and hastily, seeking nothing but the favor of their chosen deity. Rarely do these dragons care for their own safety, and rarely do they last long in battle without having to be dragged to safety by their comrades. But they are driven by an insatiable hunger for battle, and throw themselves back into the fray as soon as they can stand again. They are like the Mirror packs that are rumored to roam the more wild places of Sornieth. They move with a single-minded purpose, attacking anything that is not dragon without thought or mercy, taking it down with sheer force of will and numbers. One by one, they grow stronger, and one by one, she has watched them leave the battlefield forever, turning instead towards a higher, more elusive goal. She has watched many dragons suddenly begin to glow from within, the light--always a different color, always a different god--shining through the cracks in their scales and the wounds on their hide as though to consume them. But it doesn't. The moment the light touches them, their wounds are healed, their scars faded. They take wing--even those who have never or could never have flown before--and they leave the battlefield without a second glance backward, following the wavering, light-song of the god that calls to them. They are the Exalted. |
