The Protector

I was born amidst many, within the sanctuary of a hatchery is where I took my first breath, first tasted the cold tang of the outside world, ventured out of the thin shell protecting me for so many days. My mother and father nowhere to be seen, I was ushered into a crèsh, along with any siblings I may have had. Youth is fleeting within a pack of so many other youngsters, and I quickly learnt my place. I was no bully, I was a protector, born to guard over those too weak to save themselves. There would be little point to my role until I reached maturity. As an adult I ventured out, left the boundaries I'd been given so many moons ago, traveled far in search of something worthy of protection. Guardian's call it 'the search', I do not believe in such a thing, I just knew I was looking for something. I ventured far out of the sunbeam ruins, far from the glittering homelands of my species full of pompous philosophers looking for answers within their heads when the meaning was far out there, in the world, yet to be discovered. I ended up within the darkened lands of the Plaguemother, a land full of pestilence and revulsion, wherein the smell itself was enough to drive you off, but not me. I stuck at it, like an overly excited pup I explored every nook and cranny of the festering plains, eventually finding a small clan, nestled between rocky mountainous faces and hidden by bone. I entered. I've never looked back Within I found a purpose, to guard the clan started by a seemingly negligent Guardian who likewise had found his calling here, I swore to him directly to protect his clan, and I shall do so, until the very last breath. I found the other half of my soul too, Mina If ever there were such a thing as a soul mate, it would be her. Yes she is of completely opposite ideals than the flight from which I originate, but there is no length I would not go to, no mountain I would not climb, to prove my loyalty and utter devotion to her.
