Mange is a dragon that lived for thousands of years in the secluded black swamps of the Maze Forest. He (or she, doesn't really matter when you're a god) formed a symbiotic relationship with the meat-eating crystals over the hundreds of years he’s been alive. The crystals cling to him in small clumps and spread out to shield him when they detect danger. The crystal feeds on his blood, but in turn, he is able to control them to his bidding. He protects the black swamps and crystal beds from strangers who enter and bring in diseases that kill the ecosystem while keeping the crystals from spreading too far out.

Due to this isolation, the bacteria/viruses inside and outside the swamp have no immunity against each other. Only time will tell if this is a disaster waiting to happen.

The crystals start out looking identical to ice, but turn red once they latch onto the skins of beasts and dragons. They seep the blood from their victims, who will either die from blood loss or suffocation as the fungi spread. The older the crystals, the darkder the red while newly-formed crystals are clear white.
