Birch spends his time in the woods, gathering plants and insects for the clan stockpile. While he occasionally helps Clementine on her farm, he finds the row-by-row work repetitive, and prefers to take the time to wander as he gathers. At times he accompanies Lyora on her hunting outings, but finds the business of it too violent for his tastes, and is reluctant to help.

When he has the time for it, he likes to be vain, preening his golden feathers and adorning himself in branches and leaves. He's got a better knowledge of trees than most expect, and tends to the forest on his gathering path, trimming dead branches and keeping an eye on the health of the surrounding flora. As a former plague dragon he's got a decent knowledge of contagion, and is talented at tending to plants and trees that have fallen ill.
