Biography

Alkali hatched in the ruins of Hewn City as a fluffy tundra. Young and on her own, at night she began to steal scraps of food just to keep herself alive. By day, she hid in the bustling streets, watching crowds of dragons drenched in wealth hurry past; lost in their daily errands. She began to dream about what she could look like if she were a different breed. Could she be a Wildclaw? Or a Spiral? A Coatl, an Imperial or.... a Pearlcatcher. She'd heard it was possible to change breed, but she knew it would be very hard. Young Alkali began to hang around the local Alchemy shop, hiding in the ally to the side. She watched the patrons come a go, most of them came out carrying cloth bags filled with who-knows-what. Then one day, in went a Fae, and out came a Wildclaw! But unfortunately, the Mage that owned the shop caught on to her anticts, and booted her away claiming that she was “scaring off customers!” It was then that she decided that it was time to leave this place and search for greener pastures. She packed what little belongings she had, and set off on the road. Her journey was often perilous, and there were times when Alkali thought she wouldn't make it. But she perserveered. She had a goal, and she was going to accopmlish it. Soon, she found herself on the outskirts of the Viridian Labyrinth; a tangling maze of greenery. Something came alight in her, the forest seemed to be calling out; tempting her to come further. So she did. |
She travelled past tangling roots and brilliantly-coloured flowers; collecting what spoke to her along the way. Eventually, she came to stand at the foot of the Great Behemoth where she was greeted by members of The Dragon Sage Clan. They took her in, and for the first time in her life she was shown a great kindness. They let her bathe, and gave her a warm meal and gave her a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
As her time in the clan went on, they provided her with everything she needed to start training as an alchemist; a skill she took very quickly too and soon became the clan's main alchemist. For now, she is studying to be a Mage so she can achieve her dream of becoming a Pearlcatcher. But she doesn't feel so much of a rush to do it as she did before, as she has a loving home.
With the support of the clan and the lack of stress, she did make great strides on transforming into a Pearlcatcher. Then one day using a combination of magic and alchemy she managed the shift. From the nest of tundra fur, Alkali emerged and gobbled up the fur that marked her former life. A few hours later she produced a lustrous pearl.
