Howdy, yeehaw, Enlighten knows the whole mile-long list, pardner. Every time he rolls into a new settlement he gets the calls from teasing dragons and beasts alike. He always lets out a "HOWDY!" loud enough to frighten weaker souls in the area and betray his calm appearance. Thing is, Enlighten can't hear those teasing whistles and calls. He's been deaf since he hatched, but of course when he feels a Guardian's earth-rumbling shout as his caravan beetles carry his ten-gallon hat over the horizon, he knows it's for him. He even taught himself how to call back! He's been told it rivals any Imperial's roar, and he's plum proud of that. Enlighten is a traveling merchant who deals in everyday commodities; he sells leather, fabric, preserved foods and materials for preserving. But he won't trade for just anything. He looks for artifacts that pre-date dragons, any clan in Dragonhome knows Enlighten will trade them a whole season of provisions for just an old tome from before the Twelve's awakening. He keeps a library of information about those who walked before dragons and beastclan in Rajada's den, and she's happy to organize it just to read what he finds. He also works with other dragons who don't speak, or who would just like to learn, to teach them signing so they can communicate better than with just gestures. Dragon-signing involves a lot of wing movement, similar to flag signaling but with some basic forearm movement, too. The species of dragons on Sornieth are varied, so its signing languages must be more general. When he comes home to Bruins' clan, he teaches Haven, because she's mute, and Carbon, because he prefers not to speak. |
