Growth.
I used to care too much about what others thought about me.
I don’t know how or when it started, but I almost lost myself.
I didn’t value who I was, and instead tried to be what others wanted to see.
I thought that in order to be accepted I had to become someone else.

I locked the essence of who I really was behind a cold iron door.
Then one day the wind hissed in my ear, something I was too afraid to say.
Her voice frightened me at first and it made me crash into the floor.
But then she helped me up and held me close, wiping my tears away.

She told me that I was losing myself by changing for others,
because those who truly cared about me would stick around no matter what.
Unable to unhear it, I listened to what she said, and embraced my true colors.
I carefully began opening the door that I had once fearfully shut

Opening the door released something unimaginable within me.
I reconnected with myself, and let go of the facade I once wore.
I was able to stop caring about what others thought about me.
Because those who care will stick around for who you are at the core.
