B I O G R A P H Y

Elegance was born to the king of an insidious Skydancer kingdom and one of his many concubines. The day he was hatched Elegance was beloved and praised by the court, his sleek black coat and vibrant pink wings a source of much pride for his father.

However, as Elegance grew, it became obvious something was wrong with him. Skydancers have the ability to sense other dragons' emotions and magical powers by detecting subtle vibrations with their antennae. Every Skydancer in the court had this ability, and they relied on it to gauge the magical strength of their rivals, and whether other nobles were hiding sinister intentions behind a gracious smile. But Elegance, as it became increasingly clear, was Mute - he was born with defective antennae that prevented him from sensing others' auras as other Skydancers could. Out of shame and disgust for his now "worthless" son, Elegance's father stripped his mother of her name and banished Elegance from his kingdom.

Forced to live on his own, far from the courtly comforts he had grown up with, Elegance somehow managed to travel from the Viridian Labyrinth to the Sea of a Thousand Currents. There he met the Clan of Roaring Waters, which at the time was a fledgling clan with barely half a dozen members. The clan was more than willing to let him join so long as he pulled his weight and got along with the others. Skydancer lore was not yet well-known at the time, and by the time that his clan members knew he was Mute and understood what that meant, no one cared because he had become an important and valued member of the clan. Though still disabled, Elegance no longer sees himself as just "that Mute Skydancer," but as the hard-working clan member and loyal friend his clanmates see him as.

B I O G R A P H Y

Elegance is a dedicated and loyal member of the clan, if a bit stuck-up at times. When he was first exiled from his father's court, he carried a lot of the court's behaviors with him, including snobbishness, pickiness, prejudice against other breeds, and distaste for menial work. Living on his own in the wild after being banished humbled him by the time he came to the Clan of Roaring Waters, simply grateful to have somewhere to live after travelling on his own. But he still had a superiority-inferiority complex from being both an exiled prince and a disgraced Mute, and that led him to be rather standoffish with the others at first. Elegance tended to be rather curt and sarcastic, especially compared to more bombastic dragons like Obsidian. To avoid interacting with his new clanmates more than necessary, he focused on doing odd jobs for the clan (of which there were many at the beginning). He soon found he had a knack for sorting items and a good head for figures, and developed a reputation for being tidy and a hard worker. After more dragons joined the clan and jobs became more specialized, Elegance naturally took on the role of Hoard Keeper.

As Keeper of the hoard, Elegance is in charge of sorting the items brought home by the gathering dragons and warriors and placing them in the correct sections. He likes to sort the items into neat piles, and gets mad when dragons mess up his stacks by randomly grabbing items to sell to Crim or trade with other dragons. One memorable moment was when someone tracked dirt into the hoard, and Elegance threw such a fit that the clan started calling him the resident "neat freak," albeit good-humoredly. Elegance is also responsible for deciding what items to give to Asha to sell/trade, though most of the profit Asha makes typically goes to Elegance's mate and clan treasurer/Vault keeper Iridescent.

The day his and Iridescent's first clutch hatched, Elegance confessed to the clan that he was Mute - only to find that they didn't care. To them, he was still the same serious, sarcastic, and hard-working dragon he'd always been, with or without empathy powers. Their acceptance is was truly cemented Elegance's dedicated loyalty to the clan. After that he mellowed out. While Elegance still delivers dry, sarcastic quips from time to time, he no longer walks with a clip on his shoulder, and he's finally come to terms with being banished from his father's court - the Clan of Roaring Waters is so much better, anyways. Elegance is a reserved dragon, but one who loves his family and clan deeply. He is devoted to his mate Iridescent, another dragon whose cold demeanor and cutting criticisms hide a warm heart. Elegance is especially proud of his son Beautiful, whose Skydancer empathy and strong Water foresight makes him one of the most powerful oracles known in this part of the Sea. Though Elegance may roll his eyes at some of his sillier clanmates' antics, and is not afraid to denounce an idea he thinks is ridiculous, Elegance is dedicated to the clan that accepted him as part of his new family when his old one kicked him out, and showed him he is much more than just a Mute.
