PERSONALITY Born with shimmering plumage and a laugh like a bell, Rue seemed to have been cut from the cloth of Light itself. Their warm smile and bright, curious eyes were known to all, as their teachings were the foundations of the Whispering Forest. Rue has been a Cardinal for nearly 500 years, tending diligently to the needs of the land as well as the Forest's inhabitants. A master of druidry and eyes that seek the Truth, Rue is often seen flitting about their students, excitedly giving impromptu lessons on anything that comes to mind (and into view). ABOUT Rue is the younger sibling of Amanek the Wanderer. The two grew up on the outskirts of the Shrieking Wilds, before settling into what is now called the Whispering Forest. Growing up, Rue stuck to their brother's side like glue, always blurting out questions about anything and everything. It was simple, gentle days like these that inspired Rue to become a teacher — the joy of learning new things and being taught so patiently was something they wished to share with as many dragons as possible. Because of Rue's innate druid abilities, the area around them formed a natural barrier that warded off dangerous creatures. Over time, other dragons slowly flocked to them and took up residence nearby, beginning families of their own. As the settlement gradually grew into a village, Amanek took up traveling and left Rue in charge of protecting the dragons who now shared their home. It is here that Rue has stayed for over 500 years, teaching hatchlings how to become stewards of the Gladekeeper. Rue constantly worries about Amanek, who tends to disappear for months (even years!) at a time, so they spend a lot of time in their brother's library, one of the first buildings Rue had built in the Whispering Forest's main village. When Rue wasn't teaching, they were exploring the wide expanse of trees, gliding through the branches and making the wind sing through their iridescent feathers. For hundreds and hundreds of years Rue was content being alone, until one day during one such adventure, a tree fell from the sky. Or, what they thought was a tree. While flying over an unexplored area, something collided midair with Rue and sent them tumbling down into the gaping maw of the deep forest. Thanks to a canopy of vines, Rue managed to escape severe injury, and when they came to they surveyed the cause of their unceremonious crash. What first seemed like a tree was actually a dragon just about their size. This was a Coatl they had never seen before, with a coat resembling tree bark and verdant feathers twinkling like sunlight through the leaves. Curious!, Rue thought. They checked the coatl for injury, and was relieved to find him largely unscathed, save for a few scratches and ruffled feathers. The coatl groaned and awoke, staring blearily around before setting his gaze on Rue. Rue found themself frozen in place, and it seemed the feeling was mutual. Looking back at them were the most beautiful, striking eyes they had ever seen. In the dim light of the forest canopy, a distinct shift set Rue's heart in motion. COMMENTS Rue is one of my favorite names. It's a beautiful herb, but it's also the name of one of the main characters of one of my favorite childhood games, Threads of Fate/Dewprism. I would say Rue the character is a definite blueprint for me, as green, white, and orange are also my absolute favorite colors. In any video game, I tend to carry the name Rue with me and reserve it for special things, whether it's a companion, a playable character, or a special place. Rue has been my avatar dragon for many, many years, and in many regards represents a piece of me as well. I kind of made a goof coming back after several years and immediately bred Rue with Aruna before adopting and falling in love with Cypress, but I love Primrose, Enemion, and Scoril so they will just. Be there! Being beautiful. ~ "Who wouldn't be drawn to this dreamy druid ?"
