Castemere - Lord of the Land 6.png

Mate of Sable

Personality:
Castemere has always been stern, but fair. He allows no conflict within his clan, and leads with purpose. He doesn't hesitate to remind others of who exactly is in charge, but he is still extremely respected by the clan as a whole. He hasn't led them astray so far. He tends to remain aloof from the general populace, and is a rather lonely dragon as a result. He's firm and generally confident in his choices, though he's generally willing to listen to any concerns. He doesn't particularly like being wrong, but he will admit it for the good of the whole. He always considers what is best for the clan before acting, and is also very spiritual. The vast majority of his children have gone on to serve the Ice Warden in his fortress.

History:
No one quite knows where Castemere came from. It is said he came from the Ice Warden's castle itself, but if he is he's not saying. He has been with Sable as far back as any dragon can remember, and none know exactly how they met. All they know is that Castemere left his original home and he found a territory quickly enough, large and oddly vacated though he supposed that the various mysterious happenings might have had something to do with the space being abandoned. He quickly gathered others to his budding clan, adopting a young mirror by the name of Devereux as his own

He mainly interacts with Sable, Devereux, and the Coliseum Team that quickly formed. Strong dragons were a bit of a necessity for this particular area. The current backup is Asra, the daughter of Castemere and Sable who stayed with the clan. Most of his other sons and daughters went to serve the Ice Warden willingly enough. Most of his orders are relayed to the rest of the clan through the Warriors, which suits him just fine. He prefers having a bit of distance between him and most of his clan.

He often has the difficult job of who to accept within the clan, and who to remove. He has a soft spot for younger dragons and hatchlings and often takes in eggs and young ones. Still, he knows his own clan would soon exceed their borders if he allowed everyone to stay. He won't send children to the Ice Warden, he always waits until they are old enough to learn how to defend themselves with the Coliseum team before sending them on their way.

While Asra is the Heir Apparent to Castemere and Sable, two other daughters of theirs ran away to other clans instead of going on to serve the Ice Warden like their other dutiful children. One, Maude, eventually went on to serve the Gladekeeper, to the family's shame. Their children were meant to serve their own deity after all, not those of other lands. The other, Ailith, has a different fate entirely.

Castemere's daughter, a stubborn young Mirror far too much like her mother, Sable, ran away with a young Mirror passing through from far away, from the Windswept Plateau. However, due to circumstances that Castemere never quite knew, she returned to the clan heartbroken and with a young hatchling in tow. She pleaded with her parents to take in her child, their grandchild. The first that they had been blessed with, for Asra had shown no signs of settling down until recently, and their other children placed their duty to the Ice Warden before their duty to procreate.

Hesitantly they took the child, Circe, in. Despite her green eyes, obviously marking her as born far from here in a way they never thought any of their lineage would be, and took her under their wings.

Castemere did not protest when his daughter took leave of them, not for the Ice Warden like he had still wished but for another clan. His daughter Ailith had been heartbroken, but she was still as headstrong as the day she hatched after all. Ailith had never wanted to follow in her siblings footsteps and instead forged her own path, and Castemere could respect that in a way. He had forged his own path after all, and all he could hope for is that his daughter would be safe in her travels, and perhaps come back one day. If only to visit.

Until then he had his granddaughter, Circe, to remind him of the daughter he lost, and regained, only to fly on her way again. A reminder, but a good one, and his heart will always be fond of his children first and foremost.
