Caryn was one of the first hatchlings born in the Clan of Wynter. Before her birth, a Night Warrior arrived, by the name of Orion, called to aid a warrior-in-training, who went by the name of Pynk, at the time of Caryn's maturation. From far away, hidden in the shadows, Caryn often followed Orion and Pynk to the Coliseum, where Orion (sometimes brutally) got Pynk into shape. She would observe their fighting tactics, their movements and guarding skills, and day after day she would follow them back, unseen, with Podid Claws and Hematite in tow, bringing riches and spoils back to Xena and Wyn, both of which were always proud of them. One evening, after a long day of fighting, Caryn noticed that Orion had gone ahead, and left Pynk to his own whims. Pynk wandered, and though Caryn knew he understood the way back, he wasn't taking it, and in no rush. It wasn't until the Imperial started taking apart trees out of frustration that Caryn finally decided to give up her secret stalking and come forward. Surprisingly, the Imperial did not grow angry at her appearance, and merely questioned her calmly about her interests and motivations for following him. "I want to be a Night Warrior one day!" She said, no hesitation in her voice. "Watching you and Orion, the pride you two are bringing to the Clan of Wynter, I want that! I want to make Xena and Wyn proud." Pynk had looked fondly at her then, and while hardly younger than he, noticed she possessed a level of wisdom and maturity that spoke of a rare ability to see the greater picture in things. Pynk knew in that moment that Caryn, in seeing how everything in the universe connected, would bring outrageous glory to the clan. "Wait for me," Pynk had told her. "When Orion returns to his clan, and moves on to others after, I will come find you, and train you as Orion trained me, with the ways and values of the Night Warriors that he instilled in me." Caryn nodded, and flipped her tail happily. "I won't tell Orion you watch us." The Imperial winked, and then urged Caryn to fly back to the Clan Lair, where he would join shortly after, as to not raise suspicion. When the time came for Orion to leave, all dragons in the Clan of Wynter watched him go, and not two minutes later, Pynk grabbed Caryn by her wing to the armory, slapped on armor to protect her in their adventures-"why do I need more armor than you?"-and they set off for the mire. Several hard weeks later, Caryn reached Night Warrior status. Proudly, she travelled to receive her honors from Orion, and proudly she returned to the Clan of Wynter, where a feast was held in her honor, led by none other than Pynk. Throughout all of this, Pynk and Caryn had realized-albeit slowly-their near-perfect companionship for one another. For a long time, it was just long flights across the realm with Light in tow, usually sleeping on Pynk's shoulder. But when two dragons spend that much time together, they talk about many things, struggles and sadness, hard times, but also the good things, like hopes and dreams and wishes. And the one thing Pynk wished for, after all of his trauma and pain and suffering in his early life, was to have a Heir that would also be a Night Warrior, because the drive that Caryn possessed, that Orion possessed, that was something he wanted in his child. So, he approached Caryn carefully, and with immense thought, and asked her to be his mate, if only for one nest. "Pynk, why stop there?" She had told him. "I have never stopped wanting to see you every second of every day, to spend the early mornings on the verge of death in the Coliseum, and then the evenings flying with Light and you... I want to do that forever." Xena and Wyn performed the mating ceremonies shortly thereafter. If one was to see the two warriors in action, under all of the armor, lay a violet lei, frozen in development-thanks to the scientist faction in the Clan of Wynter-which serves as a symbol that their love not only flowered and became beautiful, but will remain so forever. |

Caryn as a hatchling was vibrant and wild, fluttering like a butterfly right out of the egg. Her parents joked that if she was struck by lightning, then she wouldn't have gotten any more fidgety, to which she replied, "That's why I was born in a Lightning clan!"
Caryn learned to fly slower than most dragons her age, but once she did, she flew faster than all of them, save for one Wildclaw who everyone eventually started calling "The Flash". Even as a full grown dragon, she still challenged Barry and Eobard to races fairly often, and while she loses nearly every time-except if both are distracted-thre three of them still find ways to have fun afterwards, usually with long flights together over the treetops in search of water to quench their thirst from racing so hard. |
