  ABOUT.
Youngest son and lastborn of two founding Company members, a dancer and a merchant, Sear was not expected to develop any special talent beyond an attractive face. Although he has no aptitude for sword and spear whatsoever, his magic burns hot enough to melt stone. He and Cadenza, the adopted son of Zohran's most fearsome warriors, make a fighting team not unlike Elegy and Ode in terms of combat support. Under cover of his friend's illusions he can further dazzle approaching armies and, if required, boil soldiers in their very armor.

Despite his growing fame as Archon and mage commander of Late Lights Company, he spends much of his off-duty time reinforcing the city guard and leading investigations into trade fraud in the bustling port. His early merchant training with his father has uniquely equipped him to oversee what others would consider hopelessly complex paper trails.

He counts Emalien and the other Shadeguard as personal friends. As one of the few entrusted with their history, he has been enlisted in the hope that he'll be able to turn his prodigious magical strength to repairing the binding between the younger members of the order and their leader. His association with these ancient hunters has thrust him into attempting previously unthinkable magics. Potent wards against the Shade, aiding Jael in her struggle to regain memories lost to her binding, and even the purification of tainted dragons have become part of his regular duties.

Shade-tainted dragons are sent to him only as a matter of last resort, subjected to his magic in an effort to preserve their sanity and prevent their becoming full revenants or wraiths. His power is often ungentle despite his best efforts at fine control. Even those he manages to save tend to suffer horrific side effects from his touch.

In his personal life, Sear takes after his mother in the shear number and variety of his romantic entanglements. While he is careful not to pursue lovers among his subordinates, that still leaves the rest of Zohran's militia and the city guard for him to terrorize.
