PERSONALITY: Satet is an outgoing, ambitious dragon. She considers her blood, founder's blood, to be of significance. It's a legacy she doesn't want to let die, and her belief in that gives her the confidence she's known for. She's also proud. Satet believes in her own skill and her own smarts, and must be handled carefully for fear that she realizes she's being handled at all. It's a bit of a sore subject what a gibbering mess her revered grandmother is. Satet is highly defensive of her family, and while she's willing to admit they have their faults, she still doesn't like hearing people put them down. Art by Lhuin. En garde! 30 3 HISTORY: Ambition and strength have carried Satet far. Born during the reign of another ruler, Satet always felt she had something to prove. Her mother had cared more about serving the Stormcatcher than the clan, something Satet never quite forgave. As a child, Satet was very close with her uncle, Mikhail. She was an energetic kid, and he was a ready playmate. When she wasn't visiting him, she was training. She wanted to prove herself to be something worthy to the clan. She wanted to be a knight, a protector of the clan powerful enough to defend it from anything. But just serving wasn't enough. Satet was determined to lead the clan's military. She would not rest until she was there. Under the clan's ruler (a false ruler) Satet rose. Although her ambition was openly acknowledged by the then-leader, Satet was granted the position of first knight. It was the proudest day of her life. She thought she'd be content with such a title, such a position. For a while, she was. The leader was noble and good, and Satet was plenty busy with the responsibilities of her rank. Eventually, though, Thunderbird retired. This, paired with the arrival of a princess from an allied clan spurred Satet into action. Worried that Richter had come to try and make Stormbay merely a retainer to her home clan, the Longwings, Satet nominated herself for Stormbay's new ruler. She had the advantage of supporter numbers, and ultimately won out. Richter might say she didn't put up so much of a fight, but Satet's confident of her win. CURRENT PLOTS: Under Satet's rulership, Clan Stormbay has foregone whatever it was in the past. An army for hire, a castle society. Now the clan is a market. It still dwells inside a mesa, hidden behind a labyrinth of tunnels and traps. Hong and Mog, but mostly Hong (but also Mog), captain the Lairguard, who patrol the tunnels that surround the lair proper. They keep watch on the mesa, guide visitors, and maintain traps for trespassers. They split the days into quarters, with six guards patrolling at a time. Shift 1 goes for 8 hours, then Shift 2 goes for 8 hours, repeated twice a day to give both shifts 8 hours to sleep and 8 hours of off time. Stormbay is a small enough clan that everyone absolutely knows everyone, and most disputes are expected to be sorted directly between relevant parties; everyone's an adult and if you can't be then you can get beaten up and dragged to time out like a wailing babe. Stormbay's also small enough that its politics are more like cliques. Social allegiances play out on varying levels, but generally only get in the way of things when it comes to taking sides. The leaders of the three cliques are Satet, granddaughter of the clan's founder; Richter, princess of Stormbay's oldest allies; and Daiki, the leader of the band of mercenaries who operate out of Stormbay's lair.

Satet holds the dominant faction, and has for some time now. While most of the newer dragons care little for legacy, Satet has proven adept at her job, keeping the wheels greased and business flowing. Stormbay once had a much higher number of dragons immigrated from the Longwings, Richter's clan. Since the two clans have such a long-lived relationship it was popular for a while for youngsters of both clans to start at the other. Back then, Richter had more pull. She's still got butt loads of money, though. Daiki doesn't make trouble, but she does assert her independence from Stormbay proper enough.
