Biography

Queen Nerissa

Freedom is a fickle thing. Nerissa fought long and hard for her own freedom, and earned it. But when she fought for others, they took her freedom and replaced it with a crown.

I was born in the depths of Wind territory, where loyalty to the Wingsinger is deemed of utmost importance. Some would call us fanatics, obsessed with a lord who would never acknowledge our sacrifice in his name. They would be correct. Our clan was born with a single-minded purpose: fodder. Hatchlings began training as soon as they could stand, with little mercy shown for those with illness or delayed learning. We grew strong, proud of our dedication to the Windsinger, eager to fight and die for this lord that hadn't shown his face in millennia in a war that was essentially just a contest of egos. The training was harsh, but effective for those that survived. My peers and I grew stronger, prouder, angrier, and more desperate to prove ourselves. It was pitiful, really. So I left.

It wasn't quite that simple, though. My life was promised to the Windsinger from the moment my egg cracked, and my clan was duty-bound to follow up on their promise. They hunted me for days after I ran, waiting for me to drive myself to exhaustion while they continued tracking me through the plateau. I don't remember how they caught me. By that point the world was nothing but a series of flickering images between bouts of unconsciousness.
