Biography

Delphinia
Serene/Loving/Forgetful
Clan Entertainer: Singer

The Tundra pulls herself out of the salt pool just as a large, watersoaked mop would--awkwardly and with lots of shaking, filling the air with droplets of water that shine softly in the glowing paint on the walls of the cavern. She laughs, filling the air with her voice just as with the water a moment earlier. It is low and bell-like in the enclosed space, rebounding off the walls. Her long, almost spoon-shaped muzzle clacks audibly as she closes it.

As dry as it is possible for her to be without a long time in the sun (read: still damp, the long hairs of her particularly thick ruff twirling into wet, knotted strands), the Tundra moves off, padding jerkily and storklike on her long legs across the cavern and into one of the tunnel mouths at the far end. She has begun singing under her breath as she moves; the words are indiscernible, but the feeling is that of calm and contentment, low and happy.

Delphinia has always stuck out from the crowd. Oddly skinny and long-legged for a Tundra, but with a strangely thick mane as a contrast even in summer, she is hard to miss--and this doesn't even count the long, strangely shaped muzzle that looks and acts more like a beak than a conventional mouth. She doesn't even have fighting fangs, something that is a source of worry for any Tundra on their own. Thankfully, she was found as an egg by a Maren tribe willing to work with Stonehearth; she hatched in the Caverns and has never known anything else.

Once the other members of Stonehearth were satisfied that a) she wasn't some evil new breed of dragon bent on destroying their home (how could she be, with that fur and without fangs?) or b) going to die of her deformities, most of the Clan left her alone, which suited her well. She was nominally the charge of Curo, the Clan's healer before his death and Ammania's appearance, but he never really cared for children and let her do whatever she wanted, which was to play in the salt pools of the Healing Caverns. She has a love and affinity for water at odds with the fact that she is clearly built for living on land (except for her webbed toes).

And so, Delphinia grew up rather wild and separate from the Clan, albeit still with the benefits of it: food, water, a place to sleep and call home. Like any hatchling, she had strong, loving attachments--but these were primarily to things and not other dragons. She still doesn't see the difference, and will refer to all the rocks in the Healing Caverns by name when she talks about them. She watched the members of Stonehearth, of course, in their interactions and relationships--but she never felt welcome, even when she occasionally felt drawn to a particular dragon or dragons. So she stayed away, and even now can come across as rather aloof, when in fact she just doesn't know what to do or say in many situations. She gets lost in her own head frequently, and is embarrassingly forgetful of dates and special events unless she is constantly reminded.

When Cheraiya and Psichora joined the Clan and introduced themselves to her, Delphinia became completely lost in emotions she had never really thought about before. She was drawn to them as she had been to other dragons, but, after a time of awkwardness, they were receptive--something she had never encountered. And observing other dragons in relationships did not prepare her for actual participation at all. She still doesn't really understand what happened. She never felt like she was "missing a part of herself," or any of the other beautiful nonsense that some of her Clanmates say. But she does feel more whole now. She tries not to question it too much. She is happy, and being happy is enough.

The three now perform as a trio for the Clan on special occasions. Stonehearth being an Earth clan at heart, there are a lot of those--each Clan member's day of birth, their entry into the Clan, the change of the seasons, and many other things are all cause for celebration, so they are in constant demand. It was Psichora who heard Delphinia singing one day and began drumming quietly along with her before confronting her about her voice. It is oddly deep for one who has such a stretched body, with a bell-like quality that Psichora thinks results from the way Delphina's muzzle is shaped. It sounds beautiful in the underground Caverns and complements Cheraiya's dancing in a strangely attractive way.
