Filbert was kicked out of his old clan for being too gentle during their hunts. He has always hated killing and did whatever he could to avoid it, sometimes releasing prey from the traps he was sent to check on. When he was discovered, his parents disowned him and left him to fend for himself.
After a few months of struggling to survive on his own, Filbert received a message from Earthshaker, directing him to head off into a particular area. There, he discovered a young fae female clearing out a den for her future clan. The two hit off well at first, but soon fell into hardship with their relationship. Filbert had never been with a fae long term before, and was not used to his mate's monotony. After a bout in the coliseum, however, Hibiscus' true colors shined through and their relationship has since been as strong as it was on day one.

Filbert and Leaflet met one day when he had been taking a stroll through a forest. He had paused to observe a strange tree, the likes of which he had never seen. It had huge leaves that seemed to flutter on their own, without the aid of a breeze. Quietly sneaking closer, he accidentally startled an enormous colony of leafy moths. They took flight, flapping past him hurriedly. As he watched, feeling slightly dumb for not having realized the situation, he noticed one insect that had remained on the bark of the now visible trunk. It had been watching Filbert, allowing him to continue stepping closer and closer, until his snout was almost touching its face. Leaflet hopped onto Filbert's head and refused to leave when the dragon attempted to shake him off.
