Gwendolyn

Queen Gwendolyn, ruler of this ice clan, empress of this snow realm.

She knew she was a kind and just ruler. She was never cruel, never selfish. Gwen’s only goal in life was to bring prosperity to her clan. And those who lived in the clan were happy. So why wasn’t she?

Her first mate had been Wren, a strong young dragon who founded the clan with her- He had been gentle and sweet, and they had a clutch of three children together. For a while, Gwen was content. Together, they grew the clan, made it stronger, richer, safer. But then there had been a terrible battle with a neighbouring clan, and her mate and all of her children they had raised together were killed in the battle. At first, she was devastated. But she had a clan to keep in order, so there was no time for mourning. She found herself a new mate, after a suitable amount of time had passed. But she never felt complete. Many mates passed through her heart, and they all left her, in the end, as did the children they left her with. Over time, she grew to think of herself as cursed. Perhaps it wasn’t just poor luck, perhaps it was Gwendolyn herself. On christmas night her luck might have changed, at least that's what she thought. She stumbled across a fairy dancer named Sugarplum, he being of the rare breed of sky dancers, thought to have been long extinct. Sugarplum told her of his clan's ruling that if discovered they must grant one request. She saw hope for once, and asked of him help to find her one true mate. She saw despair in his eyes as he reluctantly agreed to stay with her and help her complete her goal. The guilt Gwendolyn felt was deep and painful, but not near close enough to the pain she felt of being alone for all of this time to make her change her mind. Sugarplum stayed invisible to her subjects, you could sometime see her talking to someone, just like she was talking to thin air. She realised as time went on that Sugarplum's aura made her subjects happy, his white shimmery halo around him gave some peace to her and her clan mates. Gwendolyn knows how miserable she's making him, but sometimes she'll look from the corner of her eye, watching him, and he would seem almost happy. And sometimes during these moments he's watching her back. This dragon....young as he clearly was.... could be her saviour....and she's scared of what that could mean.

For now, Gwen has no mate. She has only slightly unsealed herself away from the possibility of a permanent mate and future children because of her loyal Sugarplum's pledge to help her on her quest in any way he can. Her subjects need her so the process is slow but she's found a new supply of hope. So Queen Gwen, the kind and just ruler, sits and waits. She's hopeful now that is loneliness will not be her end, and this is making her clan a happier place.
