Head Namer

BrotherSpeedboat believes
he has the most important job
in the Lair.
He takes his job very seriously.

He keeps a large stash of Renaming Scrolls in large
painted vases in his back closet,
guarded by his hatchlinghood playfriend, Winddatpuffs,
a reminder that @Windsinger has a place for all,
even the littlest hatchling.

Naming Day

A breeze blows on a warm sunny day as an eye cracks open slowly. An aqua Skydancer wakes up and gives a large yawn. What another beautiful day he thought, but today he had an important job to do. There were newly hatched dragons in the clan and they were going to receive the highest honor of being sent off to Windsinger. But they weren’t leaving without having a name for themselves, which was his job to figure out. BrotherSpeedboat slowly got up and started to make his way towards the hatchlings. As he did so he would greet other dragons in the clan who he had named. RoyalElfroot, SpaceMagic, TheMilkMan, SandalwoodPanini, InnocentPepper, and of course he couldn’t forget to say hello to UHavvinAGiggle. Everyone had a special name that belonged to each individual dragon, and BrotherSpeedboat was in charge of giving each dragon those names.

Soon enough he was onto the newest batch of hatchlings. There were five of them altogether. Some looked confused why a pink winged Skydancer was studying each of them. Others knew why he was here and were either excited or nervous about what their name would be. Finally BrotherSpeedboat took a deep breath.

“Hatchlings I am BrotherSpeedboat and I am here to give each of you a name. These names are your own name that is special to you and with these names you will one day honor Windsinger.”

The hatchlings continued to stare at the aqua dragon.

“Now each of you come forward one at a time.”

First a circuit Guardian approached looking nervous.

“Ah child of Kiwi and ElectricBoogaloo, your name shall be OutdatedTech!”

The hatchlings smiled at his bestowed name and then joined the others after thanking his namer.

Next an excited Imperial approached. BrotherSpeedboat studied her for a few moments then exclaimed “You are QueenBluejeans!”

“Yes! That’s the coolest name.” cried QueenBluejeans and like the Guardian before her, she joined the others.

One after the other they were named; TomotoLoaf, NEONTIGER, and finally NoMoreSwamsPlz.
All the hatchlings chatted away about how awesome their new names were and slowly walked away, except for one. A young Spiral stood in front of BrotherSpeedboat and looked up at him, obviously not happy.

“What is wrong little one?” the Skydancer questioned.

“Why am I NoMoreSwamsPlz? It’s a weird name. Why can’t I have a normal name like other dragons get.”

“What name would you desire?” asked BrotherSpeedboat

“I don’t know. Something like Breeze or Noodle.”

“If one of those were your name we would never find you again.”

“What do you mean?” inquired the hatchling

“Just with Spirals alone there are almost 2,000 dragons named Noodle. And there are thousands of dragons that are named Breeze too. If another exalted friend is looking for you with Windsinger it will be nearly impossible to find you. But do you know how many dragons are named NoMoreSwamsPlz?”

“How many?”

“One. Only you. You are the only dragon in all of Sornieth. Out of millions of dragons. That’s not even something Windsinger could say.” BrotherSpeedboat smiled

“There are other dragons named Windsinger besides the actually Windsinger?”

“There are plenty of them. But this is why you have a special name that no one else has.”

The hatchling paused and thought about this for a moment then finally said “That’s actually pretty cool then. Thanks for explaining it to me BrotherSpeedboat.”

“It’s no problem NoMoreSwamsPlz, now go have fun with the rest of the hatchlings and go make your name one that everyone will always remember.”

And with that NoMoreSwamsPlz bounded off towards TomotoLoaf and the others. BrotherSpeedboat smiled as the hathcling left knowing that another batch of dragons were happy and properly named.
