THE BEGINNING

______ She tried to tell them that there were too many nests on that cliff but would they listen. No. Now she was racing toward where her clan was. Hoping and praying that it was not what she suspected. She had been out hunting when she had heard the rumble. The rumbling had started quite and had gained in noise. She even thought she heard some screams. She knew, She just knew what had happened.
Her heart was pounding in her chest, she found herself forcing her wings to flutter faster. She had to get there. She was a healer, well a novice, but she could still help.
She burst out of the trees that surrounded her home and had to stop. She could not believe the destruction. The side of the cliff had slid down the mountain and was all in a heap at the bottom. She could see a few of the nests poking out the dirt. But everything else was buried. She rushed over to see if anyone was still alive. When she reached the pile she flung her satchel to the ground and started digging at one of the nests. Fae's were not built for digging so it took her a little time but she finally came across one of her comrades. He was clearly dead by the way his neck was twisted.
Disheartened she flew off looking for another nest that maybe might hold an injured fae. But she soon gave up hope. There was no movement to indicate life. She was all alone.
