Biography

Rizane
SOBER | INVITING | PERCEPTIVE | LOYAL | CLEVER

Representative to the Voidspanner

Rizane used to be a very carefree and joyful individual, even in the face of the relentless discrimination and persecution she was subject to for being born without magical affiliation. Dragons like her are referred to as “greys”, after their grey eyes, and are largely shunned throughout Sornieth because of their lack of connection to any deity. According to all current theories and studies on magic, greys should not even be able to exist. Yet, they do. Rizane is living proof.

After spending her formative years traveling and getting run out of countless clans across the continents, Rizane finally found a home in a Light clan that advertised itself as a safe haven for anyone, regardless of flight, ability, or past. It was here that she made the two of her best friends: a delinquent wildclaw called Salyn and an emotionally despondent skydancer named Kihane. The trio became practically inseparable; in each other they found comfort enough to begin to heal from old traumas.

Despite the clan’s posturing as a safe place, its position in the Hewn City made it generally anything but. Because of its very tenuous link to the Lightweaver and resulting status as a magical weak spot compared to the rest of Sornieth, the Hewn City was the first area where portals to what was later dubbed the “void dimension” were opened. This dimensional space is a near replica of Sornieth, but completely devoid of magic. It is operated by a banished deity who reigns over the non-magical, who had for millennia been working to regain a foothold in Sornieth proper. This deity, dubbed the Voidspanner, was responsible for the creation of “greys”, and as such the portals served as a sort of beacon to them, drawing them home. Rizane was no exception.

She and her party were among the first to be drawn into and trapped in the Voidspanner’s domain. They worked tirelessly among the others who had wandered in to build a functional society, and to make sense of this new world. In the process, Rizane became the founder of the first major city and “sanctuary to the lost” located in light territory, and was fashioned as a sort of speaker or priestess in direct contact with the Voidspanner. The hardships she faced here and the weight of leadership have over time curbed her youthful enthusiasm, but she remains a beacon of strength and kindness to those around her.

Eventually, the residents of the void dimension managed to engineer a sort of portal back into the Sornieth they had left. Most greys were not incredibly keen on leaving, unlike their elemental counterparts. Still, a few volunteered to return to Sornieth in order to spread the word of their sanctuary to the rest of the greys still persecuted there.

Rizane and her companions were among those to leave, with the intent of returning to their old clan and using them as a platform to spread awareness of the Voidspanner and their found home. Upon their return, however, they discovered that their own clan had been overrun by the shade several years ago. They instead found Asteri’s research cooperative parked in its old buildings. Asteri was intrigued by these newcomers, and even more so by Rizane’s apparent resistance to the shade provided by her lack of magic. The trio was, very begrudgingly, persuaded to stay and lend their skills to the research team.

Rizane itches for the moment her services are no longer needed, and holds a certain resentment towards Asteri for keeping her from her god and her mission. She is currently working on re-establishing contact with the void dimension, beyond the cryptic dreams she receives from the Voidspanner.
