He dealt in secrets. Snippets and overheard conversations, tail ends of black market deals and back parlor trades. Nothing was too small to escape his notice, nothing too minor a detail to leave out.

When they came to him, seeking to undermine or conquer or get ahead, Recher gave them what they sought. Perhaps not all of it—what kind of dealer would he be to show his hand so quickly?—but enough to leave them satisfied. Bits and pieces, only a hint or two, murmurs of infidelity, rumors of insurgence. But for those few valued customers, those who dropped a fortune just for confirmation, those who added their own secrets to the already overflowing bucket, he gave more. The names of the conspirators, the location of the hidden treasures.

There were some who said that Recher knew enough to destroy entire generations of work, to undermine even the most powerful of families. He was the spider in his invisible web, no one quite knowing just how many pies he’d gotten into.

He was dangerous, perhaps not in physical strength, but in power.

It was just as well that Recher never took a side. Neutral in all conflicts and able to be bought off. As long as he stayed all cushy and safe inside his estate, no one took a shot at him. After all, who knows what kind of contingencies Recher had in place. Who knew who else had access to all the information he did?

There had been some who’ve sent assassins after Recher, thinking it better to bury him along with the rest of their secrets, but through some way or another, it always failed.

They said Recher had some powerful people on a leash, keeping them in check by threatening to release everything he knew. Others said that those same powerful people kept him safe, protected him as if he were one of their own assets. And some even said that Recher was nothing more than the figurehead of an underground organization, the ghostwriter behind the novel.

Recher's pretty much cold. He doesn't really like people, and he sells things to the highest buyer without caring about the consequences or aftermath or what ifs. Honestly, he's kind of a jerk. If he wasn't untouchable, he'd be down there on the list of people who're not cool. He's mostly motivated by greed/power, but he's not one for the spotlight. More like the power behind the throne kind of situation.

He loves his life of luxury, and he got there from people pouring money at him in the hopes of either buying him off or gaining his favor so they can gleam some of the secrets he keeps. Which never really works because he just sells things to the highest bidder half the time.

For all that, Recher's not all bad. He made friends with Theia somehow, and... that's about the extent of his goodness. Really, half of the "good" things he's done is mostly through Theia donating to charities and slapping his name on it. Which, admittedly, isn't him doing anything good at all.

Recher just sucks. He has next to no loyalty, so don't go making friends with him. He's not a friend you want.

H i s t o r y
Recher always had a fascination with words. The way words could break someone or build something. It really started out innocently, with Recher just writing down interesting phrases he heard people say or interesting facts he learned. And it just... changed. There was no pivotal point in his life, nothing except that one day, Recher realized that secrets could be used as a currency. And that he could get rich as the person knowing everything about everyone.

Recher showed up at this clan through some connections from other corrupt dragons. Probably Obscura, but they never talk about each other and half the dragons swear they don't even know the other one exists. Maybe Reginald smuggled him in as a laugh. Either way, Recher's here to stay 'cause wow, clan full of corrupt people with dozens of secrets they'd kill over? Yeah, that's like paradise for him right there.

Recher met Theia pretty late in his career, if you can call this whole dealership thing a career. He never really expected anything would come of it, but wow, Theia's surprisingly fun? She's cruel and uncaring in her own special way. Absolutely broken but glued haphazardly back together like a shattered mirror. It's a fun mix to work with, and Recher had all the time in the world to urge her to see his side of things. Plus, it helps that he's filthy stinking rich.

He uses her as his sounding board, throwing ideas at her until one sticks. Recher's kind of a jerk this way because he doesn't see people as inherently valuable, it's all based on how much of a use they have to him. And right now, Theia's great. Who knows if he'll ever get tired of her eventually. Probably one day. For now, they're both in it together to get rich and powerful and rule the world from the shadows.
