"If you judge me by my eyes, you will misunderstand a survivor for the ones that hurt them."

Permetior came from a small plague lair on the edge of the contagion, a cave created by crawling membranes up a cliff face. Fear was constant, as the clan consisted of dragons whose land was eaten by the contagion and ruled by devout Plaguebringer worshippers who cared only for proliferating her concoctions. His parents, exiles from the ice fields, were lucky enough to survive long enough to gain immunity. They were kept for their skill as magic users and their children were exalted for that same reason.

When Rhab found her days-old son already practicing magic, her heart broke to know his fate. She bartered and begged until she found a female imperial passing through that was willing to help. But now she had to find a way to smuggle her little son out. It was an agonizing choice, but she changed her son from a tundra to a fae, small enough to escape the harsh eye of the clan leaders. Eos carried away the little boy to clan Mediasolis.

Permetior still processes smell like a tundra and is very sensitive to sensory changes. He hides in the den much of the time, still not used to the bright sunlight. Ulcifet is a frequent companion of his, first because of her confinement to the den while leaking magic but later because her calm attitude helped him ground. Even though she's changed breed and longer suffers her magic leaks, the two still spend much time together. Often they're out early in the morning or late in the evening gathering plants and insects for the clan.

He watches …(what even is the new skydancer's name?) huddle in a corner of the tunnel lair, every once in a while checking the paint over his body. He reeks of fear and it's making the fae uncomfortable. Head crests flat, Permetior walks over to the drake.
"You are very loud." He mutters and the skydancer looks up, then looks horrified. He tries to skitter away. "Don't touch me." He whines and the fae tilts his head.
"Why."
"You're covered in it!" He looks down at himself, thinks for a bit and makes a guess.
"My markings." His crests tick in question, lifting his claws to stare at his own okapi pattern. "It is my skin." He scratches at them a bit to show they don't come off. The skydancer stares at him like he expects Permetior to claw his face off and he still reeks of fear. The fae buzzes in annoyance because he's feed-backing off this dragon, the smell making him flare anxiously. Crests flattened, he plops on the ground and breathes like Ulcifet told him to do when overloaded.
When he opens his eyes, he sees the drake still staring at him, but this time with more confusion than terror. He sighs; it's at least a bit more bearable now. "You need to control your fear or it won't be good for either of us. Truce." He asks, offering a claw. The skydancer doesn't take it, but he nods.
"Truce."

Living with Orpheus can be trying, but is also rewarding. It gets both of them engaged and even outside sometimes. They've become a funny group of friends, once he adds his mate and her bloodmage partner. He was even comfortable enough to take a pilgramage to the Plague lands with Ulcifet during Riot of Rot, returning with apparel for them both and a cosmetic fungus courtesy of his home flight. Maybe one day he can forgive the Plaguebringer for his start to life. But not today. Talking with Coralee is helping him process some of that anger at his parents, and how to handle his rowdier mirror children.
