___These dragons can be seen looping around Sornieth's main continent endlessly. They prefer to congregate in the tropical, warmer waters rather than the cold, southern ice region. If one is lucky enough, they may get to witness these massive dragons leaping from the water to snatch prey from the sky, before gliding and crashing back down into the water. ___Unlike most fathom pod structures, these fathoms are mostly solitary. They will occasionally group into large schools to travel, but do so in near total silence. Both this and their color patterning makes them difficult to find from above or below. If they do not want to be found, you will never see them. ___It is not uncommon for these dragons to decorate themselves with the shells of large Mollusks, Crustaceans, or Sea Urchins they have eaten. They also use debris and treasure they find either floating in the water or from sunken ships. Some collections grow so large they begin to weigh the dragons down and increase their drag. This is especially common in older dragons, who then often gift pieces of their collection to younger Spotted Eagle Fathoms. ___Recently, since the Unfathomable Odyssey, a few have been known to become more social towards those they consider "safe". Some may be convinced to stop and rest in different clans when the mood strikes them. They most often group up to avoid threats, though a few are finding fulfillment in joining with others. This has even led to interbreeding with other modern dragon species. Even if they stay, you may find them still circling the border of your territory. |

___Spotted eagle rays can grow up to five meters in length and weigh up to 230 kilograms. Their wingspan can be up to three meters. Besides their distinctive patterning and snout, they also have an unusually long tail with two to six venomous spines. ___These rays feed off of bivalves, crabs, whelks, mollusks, various crustaceans and any other benthic prey that fits their diet. They use specialized teeth and powerful jaws to break open their prey. They can also be seen using their shovel shaped nose to dig around for prey hiding in the sand. ___While they do not leap for feeding like these fathoms, they do display this behavior. "There are two main types of jump(s): in one, the ray propels itself vertically out of the water, to which it returns along the same line; the other is when the ray leaps at a 45 degree angle, often repeated multiple times at high speeds." They have even unintentionally landed on boats, which is likely confusing and startling for both the ray and the humans witnessing this. ___These rays can be either solitary or move in schools. They are most commonly spotted alone in shallower waters and move in schools when in the open oceans. According to the wikipedia, "One form of travelling is called loose aggregation, which is when three to sixteen rays are swimming in a loose group, with occasional interactions between them." An official school needs six rays swimming in a cohesive group, all in sync. |
