The leaves were beginning to change in Autumn’s forest home. As he strode quietly through the fresh blanket of crisp leaves he thought. They’d managed to save another hatchling today. He was being flown to the orphanage where the rest of the corporation would make sure he got the very best home. In the chaos of locating a hatchling in need, it was easy to forget that the world could be quiet and peaceful. He breathed it in, because he knew it wouldn’t last long. They’d heard about a small hatchling who was living alone in a large city, taking odd jobs and sleeping in alleyways. Autumn had been put on this job, he was one of the most calm, kind, and intimidating dragons they had. His task was to convince the hatchling to come with them, they would be able to get her a better life. Autumn sighed. He wished it went that well all the time, but sometimes the hatchlings refused help, and grew up to be thieves and criminals, just like Autumn himself had once been. He would, if he could, save them from that awful life.
