She ran untill sunset, which colored everything in calm orange, bringing memories of the last and wishes for the following autumn. The small girl climbed a little pile of dirt it had gathered to be able to see above the plants. She remained like that, standing and watching the sun set with hair swishing in the playfully breeze, running free through the fields. She closed her eyes blissfully, adoring the paintings the sun drew through her eyelids. |

Suddenly, her mother's old voice rang through the fields "Kayla? Kayla!". She opened her eyes. She was still in the field, face turned to the sunset, like the rest of the sunflowers. But something has changed. The flowers weren't so high, the skies weren't the same colors. They were darker, duller, but still cleaner than the city. Walking peacefully in the brace of the flowers, reaching a bit over her waist, she brushed them softly with her fingertips, releasing their sweet aromas in the air. She soon reached the veranda and hugged her old mother, stroking her now silver hair. From inside the house could be heard the laughter of Kayla's two children and her husband with a ringing voice talking exitedly. - What were you doing in the middle of the field alone? - the old woman said, handing her daughter the heels - The memories are returning, huh? Kayla slightly blushed, at how much her mother knew her. - Yeah. - Well, no one can forget the old times. - and her mother entered the house, giving her daughter some space. - Yes. - Kayla murmured, turning once again to look at the fields, her short brown hair swaying lazily in the air like the sunflowers, her eyes glimmering in the light of the sunset - The old times... |
