└──────────────────┘

┌──────────────────┐
with no confirmed origin, it's speculated that verdant was sprouted from one of the first seeds of the behemoth itself. having built the foundations of wildergreen with his lifelong mate, grove, he is often presented as the leader of the clan; though, he humbly denies this title.

┌────────────────────────────────┐
verdant can most often be found spending his time wandering around wildergreen, observing his clanmates as they go about their business. many describe him as "perpetually lost in thought", and those who aren't used to his mannerisms can sometimes be put off by his unnaturally slow-moving, almost sloth-like demeanour. unbeknownst to a majority of the clan, however, is that his mind is wracked with anxiety over problems that may only come after hundreds of years... after all, small strokes can fell great oaks.

┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
_ _it's not hard to believe that a dragon, one as ancient and almost unworldly as verdant, can develop a... warped sense of time. even his behaviour has adapted to be much more slow-paced than that of his companions, seen most often in his ability to stay completely still for long periods of time or how he stabilizes his head as he moves, similar to birds. many also find him difficult to communicate with because of the long pauses and cryptic adages peppered into his speech.

_despite his odd mannerisms, he has picked up several skills that have been invaluable to the longstanding safety and guidance of wildergreen: one of which being his hyperalert sense for detecting issues that would normally go unnoticed, issues that could potentially grow into catastrophic disasters. while it may not look like much, even something as simple as some stagnant puddles at the base of a tree could rot away its foundations... at least in the next, oh, 600 years or so.

┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
_ _his intense forethought, however, leaves him often trapped in his head, constantly swirling with the fear of the imminent collapse of wildergreen and the destruction of those he loves and holds dear. outwardly, verdant appears to be a very measured, perhaps even oblivious leader figure, but very few in the clan are actually aware of how frenzied his inner thoughts can really be... how he can be kept awake for days on end, worrying over what could be potential problems. when it gets bad enough, grove will call upon eodai to soothe verdant's mind so he can finally get some rest.

_while this kind of grander-scale problem solving has allowed wildergreen--and verdant himself--to continue thriving for so many years, the tradeoff is that he often can't see "the trees for the forest". it's not unheard of for him to make decisions that, while better for wildergreen on the whole, will neglect to consider how individual dragons would be affected. though while never malicious, he can come across as insensitive, almost unempathetic, because of this tunnel-vision.
_
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
_ _after finding eclipse and discovering her abilities for seeing into the future, verdant's unrelenting desire to future-proof wildergreen reached an all-time high. he asked frequently, daily, to use her talents to search every corner of possibilities: have the bridges been reinforced enough? are we over-hunting to extinction? will the wells dry up? however, after a particularly rough session, eclipse's hands opalized completely, breaking verdant from his fixation. though vowing to never use his clanmates in relieving his worries for the clan's future, his fears have all but ceased. _
