On 24 Nov 18, Vixen broke the happy news to the clan that they'd finally grown enough and saved enough treasure to be able to move to The Observatory. Although the Focal Point had been their home for three years, the clan was overall excited to make the bittersweet move. In celebration, Vixen changed her secondary to Constellation--in further honor to the Arcanist and to the love of the stars. |
Vixen
MATRIARCH
Vain | Tough | Resourceful | Bold
Clan Leader;;
Origin story found here. Vixen is a bold and fierce Guardian. Others can usually sense that she is not to be crossed. She is quite a complex creature, but her charge and her leadership is not. Her charge has always been her clan. From the moment she hatched from an egg, she was searching for a clan to lead and protect. She is tough and sticks to her ideals and morals no matter what. She can carry her own weight and is not afraid of any threat to her clan. She spends the majority of her time rushing here and there: making sure there is enough food, making sure there are no territory disputes, making sure there is enough lair space, personally meeting and welcoming new clan members or travelers that stop in her clan, battling in the Coliseum, training those who wish to serve the Arcanist, etc., etc. She never allows herself a break and will only take one if she is forced by her mate. But he rarely does so, knowing that it only stresses her out more. She likes to be busy. She loves leading her clan. She welcomes all into the clan, regardless of gender, sexuality, age, identity, color, species, personality, etc. Regardless of their background or past, if they want a place in her clan, she'll try and see if she can find a place for them to fit. However, it's no secret that Vixen has an eye for beauty. Or, as some would call it, a tendency for vanity. Not in herself, in others. She's gotten better over time, but especially when the clan was younger and smaller, she had a tendency to waste their small bit of funds on random "pretty" dragons. She also used to often make a fool of herself and embarrass her clan-mates by complimenting strangers and remarking on how well they must breed because of their colors/genes. Many believe that Vixen's intense vanity and eye for beauty stems from her insecurity in her own appearance. For the longest time, she loathed her colors, especially her tertiary. She didn't like how any gene looked on her and yet felt that being mostly or all basic left her too bland. She hated drawing attention to herself and it is rumored that that is perhaps why she often gave so much attention to dragons she deemed "pretty" and why she had so many join her clan. She wanted strangers and passerbys to not see her, and to not judge her clan based on her looks. She used to even nitpick her own mate's appearance. He was not bothered by this, however, since he knew she wasn't doing it out of meanness and truly just wanted her to find happiness. Luckily, over time, Vixen became less insecure about herself. It probably helps that she finally found a gene combo that worked for her. But even before she completed her look, she decided that she simply didn't care enough about what others thought. She was too busy to care for their appearance-based opinions. Her mate knew that she was still personally bothered by her appearance but at least this was a step in the right direction. Perhaps one day she would find herself beautiful. Vixen is also very proud of her Arcane heritage and encourages love for anything Arcane in her clan. She hatched in Arcane territory (where exactly, no one is sure; not much is known about her early life), and never plans to move her clan to any other flight. She welcomes those who serve other deities or who have intense loves for other flights, but that does not hinder her enthusiasm for her own flight. She forgives the Arcanist for his mistakes and does not blame him. She feels that Arcane dragons are the most blessed for they are born with magic and a personal connection to the stars. Relationships: Vixen's closest relationship is undoubtedly to her mate, Shadowclaw, an Arcane Tundra that shares her birthday. When she was a very young, fresh adult, trying to create her first lair in the caves of the Crystalpine Reaches, she first met him. She was sharp and nervous, worried that he was trying to take her new home from her. But instead, he was there to help her--to join her. It is by luck that they found each other. Vixen would probably be not the same Guardian that her clan loves if she had never met Shadowclaw, and not at that age. She needed someone like him back then--someone gentle and kind. She needed someone to feel safe with, to open up to, to be able to relax next to. With him by her side, she could do everything she set her mind to, knowing she had someone there that would always support her and gently encourage her to keep going. His entrance into her life allowed her to have a soft spot. Without him, she probably would be as hard on others as she is on herself. She mated with him once, when they were both very young. Their two sons both left to serve the Arcanist. For a long time she didn't mate again. She had no desire to. It's not a lack of interest in Shadowclaw, it's just a lack of interest in anyone. The only reason she bred with Shadowclaw back then was because their clan was small and she felt like that's what they were supposed to do. As her clan grew, she often used the excuse that there were already too many pairs in the lair that wanted to breed much more than her and thus should when they got enough lair space. Eventually, however, she talked to Shadowclaw about this and realized that she was asexual and just not interested in breeding. He, of course, was alright with this, even though he did not share her sexuality. Although she would only ever breed with him if she were to breed, she did not mind if he bred with others. He bred once with another, but although he does not identify as asexual, he also has little interest in breeding. But after a long while, Vixen decided she did want to try nesting again. She had become much more confident in herself and had seen so many in her clan enjoy motherhood so decided to give it another go. Shadowclaw was very excited to try nesting with her again and jumped on the opportunity. It was very hard to convince her to let the Betas run the clan while she nested, but he managed to do it. He urged her that it was going to be worth it, and he was right. After a couple nests, she had Auriga. He was the youngest of the clutch and decided early on to make his birth-clan his permanent home. He became the clan's Scout and Vixen was very proud to find him very much like her, in personality and work ethic. A bit after, his firstborn--Kerid--also chose to make his birth-clan his home, after a year-long jaunt in a different clan. He returned home and settled in permanently, becoming the clan's Custodian. He was much more like her mate, and she adored both her son and grandson and doted on them in private whenever they gave her the chance. Regardless of her busy schedule, every day Vixen looks forward to returning to her den to sleep with Shadowclaw--her beloved mate. She always vents to him and tells him the good of the day, too, then quiets down to hear his day. When they both have finished talking, they snuggle up together and sleep peacefully. She rarely is found sleeping elsewhere. In fact, if she has to sleep alone she rarely gets enough sleep. Even if she is sleeping beside Moonstream, it's just not the same. Only with Shadowclaw does she get a restful night's sleep. Her other closest connection is with Moonstream, a Lightning Pearlcatcher, her best friend. She was immediately interested in her and they basically are platonic soulmates. They are like sisters. Moonstream is the one she confides most with. She is also the only dragon in the clan that will stand up to Vixen and tell her how it is. Even when she is most busy, she will always find time to chat and laugh with Moonstream. Vixen has even forgiven her for her first mate--Castien--an Arcane Pearlcatcher she did not care for too much. She allowed Castien to join the clan and tried to overlook his presence, knowing he made her best friend happy, but was clearly relieved when he eventually left to serve the Arcanist. He did, however, leave his and Moonstream's son--Stormfall--behind, who Vixen truly loves (since he took after his mother more than his father). She eventually promoted him to Clan Ambassador and he has done well and not let her down. Like many in the clan, Vixen also became very close with a familiar. Hers is a Psywurm, a cat-like creature (before cats even showed up) that looks a lot like Vixen. Vixen met her while battling in the Mire, where this Psywurm lived. After the battle, she realized this Psywurm was following her home. She tried to shoo it away but it would not leave. It followed her all the way back to her den and even when Vixen roared, spikes raised, it did not seem bothered. It climbed onto her back and cuddled into her wings. Vixen was annoyed with this unwelcome companion at first, but over time became very content with its company. She liked having a companion that didn't talk to her and just wanted her company and liked her without having any ulterior motives. After a while, it became normal to see Vixen walking everywhere with her Psywurm. This, of course, also gave this familiar quite a bit of respect in the clan. Clan members knew they couldn't mess with Vixen's familiar because then they'd have to mess with Vixen, and that'd rather be avoided. Clans: With her clan, Vixen is a tough leader and can sometimes be pushy or hard to deal with. However, she really just wants the best for her clan-mates and eventually they all learn that and learn to deal with her antics and personality. She gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, however, and expects them to treat each other with respect. If someone crosses her, disobeys an order (which she rarely gives anyway), causes intense conflict within the clan, or otherwise disrupts the peace, she become a ferocious creature, bent on justice. She is generally patient, however, and expects her clan-mates to grow and live without much interference from her. However, she'll talk to any dragon that wants 1-on-1 time with her. Her clan is her charge, and thus, she will always make time for them if it is so desired. Her clan's happiness and comfort is her number one priority. Vixen is generally very open-minded to and interested in forming ally-ships with other clans. She especially loves when her clan-members reconnect with former family members and then want to ally with those clans. Although she seems hard to get close to, thanks to Shadowclaw, she has a soft heart and loves making new and reforming old connections. She loves welcoming new clans and neighbors into Arcane territory and also loves responding to letters of any kind from strangers and friends alike. There is and will be no "heir" to the clan, because without Vixen, this clan would simply not exist. She has been and always will be the leader. She is the Matriarch that formed this clan from dust and has brought it to what it is today. She would never give up her clan, for they are her charge. If she were to pass on somehow, the clan would dissolve. That is why she works very hard and plans to never leave her clan behind. They are her world, and even her love for the Arcanist would never make her leave them. The first of the clan; on 10/23/13. (c) Starset Quote:
