Zikel
Traitor to the Plaguebringer
Lawful Good

While she was once a high-ranked leader of the Plaguebringer's forces, Zikel has foresaken everything she ever did in the name of her birth flight. There was a time when she took pride in what she did to spread Plague, but her fate was forever changed the day she was sent to lead an attack directly on the Viridian Labyrinth itself.

Ordered to cause as much destruction as possible, Zikel instead discovered feelings near-unheard of for a Plague dragon, and was awed by the natural beauty of the Labyrinth. Reluctantly, she carried out her orders, and she and her troops caused the destruction of a significant number of plants and minor dragon lairs. Triumph was within their claws' grasp.

However, Zikel was wracked with guilt by the experience, and deserted before the largest engagement of the campaign. Leaving her troops to die, she fled the ruination she had caused with no clear goal in mind. Unable to even consider showing her face to any Plague dragon, and feeling it far too unlikely that she would be accepted among the ranks of Nature's forces, Zikel instead spent a time wandering in disgrace. She took up the occasional bounty to make ends meet, but always kept her hood up and her voice mimicking someone else's, letting no one see her face.

She would have spent the rest of her life like that, but as luck would have it she instead found herself rescuing a young mirror dragon from otherwise certain death. Zikel found a new will to live bloom as she realized there was no way to return the child to her pack, and took the child under her wing to travel Sorieth alongside herself. Eventually, she happened upon a remote Arcane clan, a place where she could have a home and act as the mentor for the young mirror. Schooling her student in both the art of tactical warfare and proper respect for nature, Zikel now works towards improving the world, instead of destroying it.

She dual wields her cleavers. Because it's awesome.

Now she's got one in each claw and is holding a third in her mouth.

Seven cleavers!? Well, you never know when you'll need a spare...

She's currently Kokoro's second in command, and takes on all his responsibilities when he is absent from the clan. When he is around, she can usually be found running the barracks, assisting any dragons who wish to report trouble to the guard. Zikel hopes that Primera will eventually take her place once she is unable to serve, for whatever reason. Perhaps she will even make captain someday, though Zikel might prefer it if someone less hotheaded took the positition. But, considering how impulsive the current captain is, she's relatively confident that if the clan wants another Kokoro, then Primera's probably their best choice.

Yes, she looted that nature regalia off the bodies of those her forces slayed during the raid. Yes, she feels really bad about it. No, you don't want to ask her for more details, assuming you value having your head attached to your neck.

While she has forsaken most of plague's heritage, she hasn't completely abandoned her magical roots. Those cleavers are incredibly virulent, and wounds caused by them will fester to the point that most would wish she'd just beheaded them.

Unfortunately, the fact that she hasn't managed to give up all of plague's gifts means that she isn't able to accept any of the Gladekeeper's blessings. Instead of bestowing her with greater power, her regalia feels supernaturally heavy and weighs her down. Those horns aren't merely decoration; they painfully burst out from below her scales when she put on the charm and now threaten to leave her unable to lift her head if she doesn't keep them trimmed. But Zikel soldiers on, determined to be the dragon she wants to be, whether the Gladekeeper accepts her or not.

She's kept up a friendship with Dewayne for that reason, as the skydancer can keep her grounded whenever she just wants to lash out against the world. He's also an excellent guide to nature's beauty, in the form of many paintings of landscapes real and imagined across Sornieth. Mettle too — the obelisk has shown her some of the ways in which plague is just as necessary for promoting life as nature.
