Kailash
Long-Distance Thief

Kailash's fascination with and adoration of anything and everything shiny was clear from the moment she was a hatchling and spent more time gnawing on her parents' fallen-off scales than with actual food in her mouth. In her younger years, she had a deep friendship with Midas, a pearlcatcher who has the curious ability to turn anything he touches into gold. While many others were wary at best or hostile at worst when they found out about his ability, Kailash was utterly delighted, often bringing him the oddest trinkets and watching with wide eyes and much 'ooh'ing and 'aah'ing as he turned them into gold in front of her.

When, on one fateful day, Midas' familiar got too close to their games, the porpoise was instantly turned into a pile of inanimate gold, and Midas left devastated. He isolated himself from the entire clan, and Kailash in particular, not wanting to hurt his best friend.

Finding herself suddenly very lonely, it was by pure chance that she struck upon an abandoned baby Silver Ferret left to die. It was far too small, even for its age, but she took pity on the creature and nursed him nevertheless to the best of her abilities. Against all odds, the little ferret survived, and the two quickly formed a life-long bond. Her mischievous side came into play when she found that her familiar's size was excellent for infiltration, and she taught him the fine art of theft--but only of that of shiny things, of course.

If you asked her what her role in the clan was, she would probably say 'thief'--although she does very little of the actual stealing herself. Her partner in crime, never far away from her unless he is on one of his 'missions', is more than content to do that particular job for her.
