So, now, she joins the ranks of the Ossuary's skilled fungiculturists--not only tending to the glades and gardens of mushrooms, but also the exquisite molds and other treasure found in the new tunnels that have recently been expanded underneath the lair.

The smell of mushrooms filled the air, and Exhilarate breathed in their gentle, earthy smell happily. “You must be very careful when picking Luminous Mushrooms,” she muttered to herself, repeating her mother’s warning. “If you get one that’s glowing, make sure it’s glowing a clean blue. If it shows any signs of green or purple, leave it. Green cause indigestion, purple cause worse.” She paused to put some acceptable mushrooms into her basket, then continued on. “If they are stiff, they’re fresh. The soggy ones will taste more like dirt.” She nibbled at one she found. “Finally, never ever let other dragons eat them without warning them first. You never know what weird side effects Luminous Mushrooms can have,”
There were only so many species of mushroom, however, and Exhilarate eventually grew and picked and sampled every species that grew amongst the brambles and inside the elusive caves of her homeland. The Scarred Wasteland, however, was rumored to rival her home in the breadth of its fungi species, let alone those that have uniquely mutated into something else... |
