“Is that going to be all for you today?” Spruce asked his customer. When he received an affirmative, he whipped around and began to create. First, he ran hot water through the mug to prepare it, while grinding the coffee beans to the perfect consistency. The beautiful aroma filled the small shop. Once it was ground, he positioned the cup perfectly and waited for the espresso to brew. He placed a dainty pastry onto a tray. The coffee was finished now, so he pulled out the milk and flavorings.
It was a symphony mixed with an experiment: The flavors blending and swirling together perfectly, nearly unstable. If he messed up one step, the entire drink would be ruined. He poured the milk just right to get a floral pattern on top, and place a rose petal on the foam. Spruce sniffed the coffee, smiled, and with the mug and pastry, he brought the tray to the table where his customer sat. “Here you are, and thank you for your patronage!” He told him, then he returned to his art, passing a sign that said, “Sornieth’s best coffee three years in a row” |
