The Solyèle Clan was born at the horizon, where the sky meets the sea.
Storm clouds swirled overhead as the water raged below; the sea itself seemed angry and restless, the frenetic activity of the water dragons beneath its surface mirroring the teeming unrest above.
The water dragons were an ancient race, steeped in tradition and ceremony and full of magic--or so it was said--but that had been ages ago, and the last of the magic had all but vanished, lost in a chasm deep beneath the waves if the old stories were to be believed. That was why the sea was angry, the elders said; the Tidelord was displeased that the younger dragons had forgotten the old ways, forsaking the magic and mysticism of their ancestors.
As the seas continued to boil beneath the cyclone overhead, an intrepid group of young water dragons ventured down into the chasm, determined to reclaim their clan’s magic and win back the favor of the Tidelord. Their efforts were not in vain, and as a reward for their determination, the seas fell quiet. For the first time in living memory, the waters were calm, the waves rising gently as the howling winds of the tempest were replaced with gentle sea breezes.
Overhead, the storm clouds parted, and the silver light from the moon and stars danced atop the waves as the water dragons broke the surface and surveyed the calm waters, stretching as far as the eye could see, and in the light of the moon, the magic quietly returned to the ocean.
The water dragons left their home in the chasm, following the light of the heavens as it glistened on the crests of the waves. The deep magic they’d unearthed from the seabed was older and more mysterious than any they’d encountered before--even the elders, with their nearly forgotten lore could not recall a magic so potent, and this magic did not belong to the sea or to the Tidelord. This was something different, something special, and it was calling them home.
And the water dragons found their new home among the seaside Sunbeam Ruins. They never strayed far from the water, but built their flight and raised their hatchlings in the light of the moon and the stars, nestled within the Hewn City, perpetually doused in darkness but illuminated by the silver light of the same moon and stars that had led them from the sea.
As the clan grew and new hatchlings were brought into the flight with each passing season, the stories of the water dragons’ magic were passed down: how it was lost, how it was found, how it should never be forgotten again, and how the Lightweaver--not the Tidelord--guided their clan forward, and with each passing year, the dragons of the Solyèle Clan made a pilgrimage back to the sea to ensure the magic and mysticism of their past were never forgotten again.
