THIS IS AN EXALTING LAIR
SOCRO CIRCLE
4/10/21 - Update to below. Tragedy has struck the Circle's home in Light. The rock walls, thought to be so stable and protective, have brought ruin.
Recent seismic activity has raised concerns about the lair's structural integrity. Clan geologists have been studying the effects. Until one day, a tunnel collapse led to the fall of the rock ceiling in the main living space. Luckily, due to cautions from the geologists, no lives were lost, although several dragons were badly injured.
Under subsequent study, geologists realized that the stomping about of the massive Emperor above combined with the seismic weakening to result in catastrophic collapse.
The Circle's formerly rock-solid, secure home, is uninhabitable.
Circle founder Ivesce, devastated by these events, has renounced leadership to his eldest daughter, Ion. Needing to find a new home quickly, Ion, under the advice of the Circle's wisest and most trusted advisor, Callisto, is traveling with the bulk of the clan to a new, promising site. For years now, Callisto had worked much of the year in the Southern Observatory she founded with her partner, Avna. More recently, more and more of the Circle have taken an interest in the Observatory and traveled South to assist. Now, this group has convinced Ion that their temporary home near the Observatory, with the diligent work of many able=bodied dragons, can be made into an ideal home for a large clan such as Socro. And it is a spot where seismic activity can be monitored.
Ivesce, Sunweaver, and several other good fighters remain in the area for now, guarding the last of the unhatched nests and allowing the injured time to heal, which were not in a state to be moved far but are worryingly exposed to the emperor.
And so the move begins...

On the far wall of the cleft between the Daylight Sanctum and Lanternlea Port, just to the west of where the river branches, there is the entrance to a deep and winding system of caverns. It isn't easy to reach because of shifting wind patterns from the adjoining canyons - the clan members are all excellent flyers and hatchlings need to learn agility quickly. But it is protected from both the full glare of the summer sun (a network of mirrors and other reflectors maintained by Ion, Keeper of the Light and daughter of the clan founders still brings natural daylight and warmth to all but the most remote corners) and any storms coming ashore from Eastern Sea. (As well as from the Emperor who roams above and is too big and heavy to navigate the narrow passages to it.)
Some Circle members work at the Daylight Sanctum (and frequently carry their research back and forth to the Oculus of the Eleven), others spend time at nearby Lanternlea Port. The bravest scholars who are very strong flyers make longer trips to explore the Hewn City or Emperors Wake. Others work abroad, in various disciplines in sites scattered across Sornieth, and only use the Circle's rocky home as an occasional base.
But much of the Circle is devoted to running Lightweaver Prep School, where young dragons from across Sornieth gather to learn about serving the deities. Tuition (paid on the day of graduation) goes toward maintaining the classroom facilities, as well as field trips to battle locations across Sornieth.
