DEADWOOD; You've been wandering the desert for a while when you stumbled across this little town filled with gamblers, outlaws, and ranchers on the fringes of the canyon - The everyday life of the villagers resuming without a care for the lost newcomer amongst them now. When you ask them for directions, they are friendly enough - But the furrow in their brow, the hesitation to tell you where you could maybe get a drink - The sparkle of unrest as you approach them reveals their suspicions. They aren't used to newcomers. Deadwood knows only Deadwood - And anything not Deadwood only causes trouble. Anything not Deadwood doesn't belong here. The man who appears to you only in the dark, smiles and tips his hat before he vanishes from sight doesn't belong here. The rancher with too many eyes, symbols tattooed on his forearms? He doesn't belong here. The girl in a nightshift, dancing in the midst of night, plucking flowers and humming doesn't belong here. You don't belong here, either. That much is clear. |
