Surrounded by a vast lava lake, set on an island but clearly having expanded beyond the reaches of it, the Caligonian Empire is easily recognizable from its impressive dark stature as well as the igneous obelisks bearing Caligo's mark that are scattered around outside marking the territory of the main city. There is a large igneous bridge connected to the mainland leading to the main gates, tall enough to accommodate for even Ridgebacks. The doors are a polished dark stone inlaid with gold designs that praises the Flamecaller's glory.

A huge majority of the city has been crafted from the magic of magmamancers- melting rock, controlling lava, pushing and curling it into huge shapes until it cools into the outer shell of buildings. More talented magmamancers can continue within the building with other necessary structures such as stairs and walls among other things, but if not as skilled, it isn't uncommon for resident Earth dragons to come and morph the rock with their precision. Metalworkers often are called upon to reinforce the structures with tungsten and steel.

Despite the wild heat of the land around them, the empire is in proud possession of a magnificent library, the books and other sensitive material kept maintained by both the huge structure's clever architecture that helps redirect heat away from it and the magic of Ice dragons acting as a sort of air conditioning. It's not an uncommon job for Ice dragons in prison to be sentenced to maintaining this magical force as a form of "paying back their debt to the city".

The Caligonian Empire began as a clan of warriors and musicians known as the Igni Ferroque within the Ashfall Wastes started by Saevio. At the start, they were a diverse collection of loosely related dragons brought together by a passion for war or music or both. Over time, Saevio and a few others pushed for Caligo to take reign of the Igni Ferroque and become their war leader. A Wildclaw dedicated to the Flamecaller and her family, she was the perfect candidate to push the clan to becoming a dominant power in the land.

Under her command, the Igni Ferroque began to amass more territory and absorbed many smaller clans into their ranks. Her people were fairly tolerant of those they conquered and allowed them the option of fully assimilating or maintaining their clans within empire as long as they pledged their loyalty. With constant expansion, the clan eventually grew into an empire and Caligo earned reputation as a favored daughter of the Flamecaller.
