History of The Murk:
Deep in The Foxfire Bramble members of The Murk enjoy the darkness and solitude afforded by the labyrinthine thorny vines which grow strong and thick as oak over a system of subterranean caverns; these made all the less navigable by the network of dark bogs and streams which tie them together into a single water system. For those who know the way, concealed by The Bramble on the east, shielded by the fanged cliffs of the Blight Sanctum on the west, lies the DeepMurk Den. Within is the Crystal Creştere, ancestral seat of the Domnitora (Queen) of The Murk and her consort. The dim lighting within is provided entirely by child-crystals of the Domnitora's seat, all sprouting from the cavern walls. Here the Domnitora's court carry out their service to their Queen in the violet-blue glow of the crystals. The lack of torches or other sources of firelight preserves the chill so loved by Murklings.
Founded by Domnitora Dusk, and inherited by Domnitora Lysbet, the Crystal Creştere, and The Bone Crown of the Domnitora's consort, was seized when Many-Sighted Oleander of The Thorndark Altar defeated Domnitora Lysbet in single combat. The resulting unrest has been dubbed The War of the Bone Crown, since usurper Oleander exiled Domnitora Lysbet's son, Shadow Radu of the Weeping Eye, seized the Bone Crown, his rightful inheritance, and alienated his betrothed, Shade Zamfira of the Plague Flight. All of this resulted in fragmentation formerly unknown to the Murk. The usurper, former Domnitora Oleander, created such discord among the Murklings that they eventually split into factions. Her disdain for The Murk's traditional alliance with the Plague Flight, set in place by First Domnitora Dusk, drove courtiers of Plague origin, their mates, and all whose loyalties still honored the Plague Pact, to form The Bloodborne. Those loyal to the Plague Pact receded into hidden caverns deep below and west of DeepMurk Den, bringing them to the very border of The Plague lands, and symbolizing their rebellion against the usurper.
Those from other clans also moved farther from the DeepMurk, choosing either the wetlands deep in the shade of The Bramble or the icy cold curved peaks of the thorny brambles, themselves, choosing to remain close to their Ice Flight origins. All of this remains a daily struggle for Domnitora Morgan of The Weeping Eye, slayer of the usurper, and restorer of The Bone Crown to former Queen Lysbet's son and rightful heir to The Bone Crown, Shadow Radu of the Weeping Eye. As she moves to distance herself from those who bowed to the usurper and prove herself a true follower of the old ways of The Murk some reluctantly move comfortably back within view of the DeepMurk, but the Bloodborne seem to have established themselves permanently beneath the border between Shadow and Plague lands. Establishing trust and truce with the Bloodborne has become a top priority as Domnitora Morgan also weeds out those who bowed to the usurper.
