Aidans' Clan

The clan of White Fire
Lesser Lair
nestled in the

Clan Info

This clan started out as a single clutch of eggs in a nest in a natural Coatl lair. The eggs all came from different parents, abandoned there after mating season. A pair of dragons, known as the gatherers, gathered together all of the eggs from different regions of the Ashfall waste and brought them to the lair.

These coatls worship the sun as their main source of heat and energy. They recognize that sunlight is a combination of all of the colors, and see bright colors as a sign of luck and good health. Each color is seen as an aspect of the sun; a gift bestowed upon the dragon. Dull colors are regarded as an ill omen, and a sign of bad health. Gray hatchlings will be kicked out of the clan, exalted to the Flamecaller. These hatchlings are said to be the smoke that accompanies the fire of their deity, and keeping them in the lair will draw the fire to them.

More on gray hatchlings: From a certain standpoint, a coatl’s coloring is seen as a part of their soul. To them, each time a coatl is born, a small piece of the sun breaks off and forms their soul. The more colorful the coatl, the more ‘soul” they have. Because of this belief, gray coatls are seen as having no soul or destiny, an empty husk of a dragon, as fleeting as smoke. They have no further purpose other than to accompany the warring dragons of the fire flight, collecting the souls of those that have fallen in a futile attempt to make one of their own. Any color from Orca to Charcoal counts a gray. If two of the three genes are within this range, the coatl counts as gray.

However, they do have a legend about a pure white Coatl, who is the physical embodiment of the sun they worship. It is said that this dragon would be a warrior prophet, and guide them during times of hardship. This dragon will be reincarnated into the clan during times of need as a dull, sickly hatchling. If they survive this period, their sickness will be burned away in a blaze of light, leaving a pure white dragon with the ability to see the future in its wake.

As the clan consists mostly of lost members from many different families and cultures, the clan has created a shared culture surrounding the creation of art. The different types of art are represented by different factions, and each faction has a role to play in maintaining the clan. In theory, each faction is equally important, but within factions some forms of art are seen as more important than others. All colors are equally welcome within each faction, although there is some bias.

There are three main factions:
Warriors: These coatls are responsible for defending the clan from roaming beastclan packs. These dragons also take on the role of explorers and adventurers, bringing home exotic goods and glory for their clan. As warriors spend the majority of their time outside of the lair, they are tasked with bringing home any lost coatls wanting to start a new life. Warriors are seen as honorable and brave by the other factions, if a little destructive.
Creators: These coatls enjoy creating things, whether that be art, music, or stories. Creators make up the majority of the clan and are responsible for preserving the clan’s history and culture. They are also the gatherer’s of the clan, catching fish and scavenging for trinkets and treasure. These dragons paint, draw, write, sing, dance, invent, and generally create. They are what make the lair feel like home.
Sculptors: Sculptors are the coatls most in touch with the traditions of the fire flight. Sculptors are the blacksmiths, crafters, and landscapers of the clan. They take already existing materials and turn them into something else, whether that be the precious metals found in volcanic seams, the rocks making up the walls of the lair, or the very land on which they live. Because they are more connected to fire than the other factions, they are also considered spiritual leaders for the clan.

Religion is upheld by all factions, but each tends towards a specific aspect of it. The warriors represent the power of the sun, the creators represent its light, and the sculptors represent its heat.

A smaller religious group exists within the clan known as the star pilgrims, with members from all factions being welcome. They shun the sun and spend their time studying the stars visible at night. They even organize a clan wide religious event where all dragons come together for a pilgrimage to the tallest mountain in the region during the winter solstice to look up at the stars and remember where they came from. During this festival, coatls sing traditional songs, share star and moon based art, and generally recognize that the night is needed as well as the day to maintain balance.
