In the region of Vistiria, it is said that the guardians of the flights lived above the lands in the Ethereal and watched over them, as well as the creatures that reside there.
The Guardians were led by Realtra, the Guardian of arcana and magic. Under her rule, the region of Vistiria prospered and those who lived in the different lands lived peacefully. Unbeknownst to them, their lands would soon fall into catastrophe.
One fateful day Prysm, the guardian of light, announced to the Guardians that Realtra has disappeared and that he would rule over them instead while the disappearance of Realtra is investigated. The guardians, wary of the disappearance of their beloved leader, submitted to Prysm's rule as he promised to find their Arcana leader and bring more power to the guardians.
However, some of the guardians were skeptical of Prysm's actions. Seifer, the Guardian of Shadow, confronted Prysm in private about their missing leader and was quickly banished to the underdark for questioning his authority. And to stop Seifer from spreading heresy, he cursed him with a vow of light, Seifer would never speak or remember their encounter as long as the vow is cast.
With skeptics out of the way, Prysm used his rule to cut off the Guardians magic from the region of Vistiria, leaving the lands in a state of chaos as once lush lands now become dry, and glistening oceans are muddied and desolate.
Those who remain in opposition to his rule, remain quiet as they plan to either escape, or overthrow their new leader for the betterment of the region and its inhabitants.

Months later, an undertaker roams the dying lands in search of his partner, whom had disappeared a long with the guardians. Diabolos, is determined to find his missing partner, Grimm, and in turn discover the mystery behind the guardians disappearance.
As Diabolos travels the lands, he comes across many a friend and foe in search for answers. While being an undertaker in these lands has its perks, it unfortunately doesn't save him from landing in trouble left and right.
