Deep in one of the darkest troughs of the Leviathan Trench, long past the depth where any natural light can penetrate, travellers may suddenly come across a strange light in the distance: a soft yellow glow which, on closer inspection, turns out to be not one lamp but a thousand tiny fairy lights strung across a series of cave entrances. Inside those caves lives the Madagen clan, a mixed species group of misfits brought together by a tundra with an unusually high prophetic ability. Some of the members are water dragons, fully adapted to life in the deep; more are travellers from other lands, invited or compelled to stay for a while with the clan after being found at sea. Most are happy to stay with the clan in their charming little lair, though few have entirely given up hope on one day living in sunlight again.

The clan keeps afloat financially through scouring the depths for food and trinkets to trade with dragons going to the surface above, and most hatchlings also try their luck in other realms or in the armies of the Tidelord and the other deities.
