IN-DEPTH
Greybea is an isolated natural sciences-oriented research colony in the middle of the Oregon Coastal Redwoods region. Greybea Institute's goal is to help individuals discover their passions and develop skills by providing a space for them to establish themselves or move on to another institution.
A newer intern, often young (high-school graduate-level), is lovingly referred to as a "Stem Cell". Exalted dragons are dragons who have found a different calling, and moved on to different institutions. This place is so fancy and formal that even students often go by Surname (with some exceptions).
Cambrie is the legal owner of the laboratory, but does minimal admin work, preferring to keep to her own work. Her writings and illustrations are well known outside Greybea, but no one outside the clan has ever heard her actually speak.
Many of the dragons here are introverted and unsocialized nerds, but they are at least mature enough to hold a clan together.
My clan lore goes as follows:
Cambrie is the leader of the clan. She immigrated to North America with her late spouse, and claimed a piece of land in what is coastal (redwood forest) Oregon
The only "permanent" architecture is portable housing units. Tunnels/burrows are also used as shelter.
Most resident dragons go by surname and/or title. Some exceptions, such as Cambrie, exist, however.
ECOLOGY
Cambrie has extensively recorded the climate and ecosystem of the region.
Greybea is notable for its heavy rainfall that classifies the old-growth woods as a temperate rainforest. The territory is at a higher elevation than most of the land around it, keeping it safe from flooding, but means it is surrounded by water during serious rainfall.
Very few trees grow in the clearing the clan is built in, the ones that do grow are short and shrub-like. Based on samples of the soil within in the meadow, though it is very fertile, it is extremely sandy and loose compared to the clay loam that the forest grows from.
Near the plane, leaked jet fuel contaminated the ground closely around it, though not much else more. Trees and large plants are unable to grow in the toxic soil, but mosses, fungi, and small annuals can be found around the jet.
Introduced animals include a murmuration of starlings, and artificially bred attempts at non-avian dinosaurs, which are considered honorary Ancients. Additionally, there are many low-elevation coastal animals such as killdeer, scrub jays, American crows, gopher snakes, rattlesnakes, gray tree squirrels, and deer mice.
A high-elevation redwood forest is visible to the north-east. On all other sides, a shorter, mostly coniferous forest forms a dense wall around the meadow. The once extinct, now invasive lepidodendron grow all over the viridian labyrinth. A group of Ice dragons, fossil enthusiasts, settled into the forest, bringing their fossils and experiments to the forest, and while most growable seeds and spores has died, some of their lepidendron spores thrived. Other notable plants include rhododendron, deerfern, yarrow, and Oregon iris. Invasive ivy plants, mostly English ivy, are a nuisance in the forest and clan. Efforts have been made to control it.

. Hello, Stem Cell. You have found yourself in Greybea Meadow, where a reclusive colony of survival-oriented lesbians (and every other identity (I just project a lot)) practice their various scientific passions. Greybea was first acquired by Cambrie and [redacted], but it is you, the research scientists, archivists, and select special forces soldiers, old and new, who keep this place going. |

The basics to the world my lore exists within (it does not have to be exactly the same for any ally clans though):
- The setting is Earth. I can tweak most lore to fit any time period, so that is not strict
- The is no magic
- There are no spirits, gods, or supernatural forces, but potentially still religion. The world itself is atheist though.
- There are no humans currently alive, whether they are extinct (how I have it written), or not in existence yet/never existed can change. I just don't like human-oriented fiction.
- "Canon" humanoid characters: Marlow is an nightjar-loon, Tyrande is just her silver dragon fursona, Irene is a chunky raven, and Opal is a mutant turkey thing.
You scrolled this far? Alright, have a little about me:
I'm a Californian college student who loves birds (and weird creatures in general) and will never stop talking about birds (I hope to do it professionally). I also collect unusual plushes, small animal models, bird art and assorted Warhammer stuff.
Here are some fandoms I like to nerd out about:
Skydancer, Nocturne, and Ridgeback enthusiast. Undertide apologist.
