The Summit Clan started out with two dragon progenitors: Rune and Idyllic, a fae and a mirror brought together by their twisted pasts. Given land by the Earthshaker, and uniting under the promise of eternal love and peace, the two settled on a plateau in the Shattered Plain, not far from the Cairnstone Rest. Laying three eggs, Rune was heartbroken when she learned that two of the hatchlings would never see the light of day. In a fit of rage, she banished her only surviving daughter. Tao, from the clan. After that incident, Rune’s heart and emotions froze over. As time went on, she continued to rule the clan with a cold, iron fist. She turned to the Shade; a powerful presence in Dragonhome, feeding off of the pillar’s power. As she dabbled with it, she tainted another dragon with the Shade’s energy; Lio.
Soon sent away as fodder to the Earthshaker’s lair, she gathered ancient tomes and fled from his benevolent care. Returning home, Lio secretly planned Rune’s downfall, out of revenge and for the clan’s future. Bakal was born, the new heir to the Summit Clan. However, Bakal didn’t want to risk Rune’s life for something like the leadership of the clan, fully knowing his future subjects could govern themselves. Finally, he developed a plan to ward Rune away from the clan, most likely never to return. She was banished from the clan by Lio’s commune with the gods; transporting her directly to the Earthshaker so he could decide her fate. She was banished from the clan grounds, and hasn’t been seen again. Bakal was crowned by Lio as leader of the Summit Clan.
♦ However, the next chapter in the Summit Clan’s history delivered a crushing blow to the peaceful clan. On a god-forsaken night, a hatchling was born. Close to death, Rune’s spirit inhabited her weakened body and restored her health with one penalty; she took full control of the young skydancer, and resumed control of the Summit Clan. A vicious civil war ensued; only the combined effort of the Lukana Clan and the Summit Clan brought her down. The war took few but important lives; Bakal and Azaelic both suffered grievous wounds, and eventually passed. After a time of mourning, a young nocturne named Halcyon took the throne as Bakal’s rightful heiress. Two dragons turned up on their doorstep in the following months; Rune and Idyllic, seeking to return to the clan to live out the rest of their days. The two were welcomed home as elders, and the Summit Clan returned to it’s peaceful days.
