Powerful nature magic lingers within the Drakewoods. The source is an enormous tree growing in the center of the woods.
The soul of a dragon resides within the plant, a former priestess of the Gladekeeper. Her temple had been set ablaze, and the clergymen attacked. She managed to escape, alive but mortally wounded. She collapsed in a clearing, and in her dying breath she prayed, calling out to her goddess for help. The Gladekeeper answered her fearful call, transfiguring disciples dying body into a large oak. The goddess’s powerful magic lingered, radiating from the oak and enriching the area. This holy magic combined with the priestesses own magical soul drew creatures towards it and bolstered the woods to grow lush. Seeker flocks nested in the oaks branches, and beasts were drawn to the magical aura.
Beastclan settled near the area and gave the dense woods a name, The Drakewoods. Their legends claimed the souls of dragons wandered the woods, leading to the area’s wild overgrowth. The Beastclan , wary of the spirits wrath, avoided building their clans within the supernatural Drakewoods. That was one area that belonged to the dragons.
Dragons, highly magical beings, are drawn to areas with great elemental power. Many pass by the woods on their way, feeling an impulse to choose paths that will lead them past the Drakewood. A few tried to settle the area but were driven out by the fierce wilds. Centuries went by before the first dragons permanently settled the area; a meek fae, looking for a place where he would belong, and an ambitious mirror, determined to form her own clan. More dragons passed by, and slowly more and more decided to stay. The Clan of The Drakewoods was formed.
The clan is built around the Great Oak, with the tree at the very center. The clan is peaceful, choosing to ally with dragons and Beastclan alike. Its warriors focus on keeping the wilderness at bay instead of conquest. The clan's land is rich with magic, making farming quite profitable. The main income comes from an inn, built to accommodate the streams of dragons that pass through.
A religious guild exists within the clan, led by the Head Priestess Moth. The dragons of the Drakewoods see the Great Oak as a vessel of the Gladekeeper, and a way to become closer to their goddess. The spirit within the tree, referred to as Aja, is worshiped as a Demigod. Offerings are left to both of them, placed on altars made from the ridges in the root's bark.
Basil is the current clan leader. He is the only remaining founder; his mate went missing one day and has long been declared dead. Though mostly safe, the Drakewoods are still wild, and discord arrives in any city. The fae governs the clan, trying his best to honor his mates legacy, eager to see The Drakewoods grow.
