Fírnen awoke dazed and confused. His Mirror eyesight and instincts quickly snapped him to attention. Where was he? He had been with his pack, then all went dark. He felt a sharp pain in his haunch, and at the back of his skull. He looked at the wound at his haunch and immediately noticed it was the bite of another Mirror dragon. They had thrown him out. One of the strongest in the pack, yet they threw him out, probably jealous of his power. His pack had been mighty, 50 or more, one of the largest the land had ever known. Fírnen was strong, but not strong enough to fight an ambush of that many dragons whom he had trusted.
He wondered if he would die here for a moment. Did he welcome it? Of course not. But his leg was badly crippled and he couldn't walk. He'd never be able to hunt on it.
Then, his savior approached. A massive green shape appeared from the forest. No, it /was/ the forest. Behind its massive girth, a smaller dragon appeared, although still large compared to the average dragon and not the behemoth stood next to her. It was a Guardian female, Fírnen recognized.
"There is your ward. Protect him with your life" came a deep rumbling from the massive dragon-forest.
"I will" vowed the Guardian female.
"He will be mighty, but he will need your help. Regrow his pack. Build his strength. He is to be my champion. Your friends in the Wind and Lightning flights have promised to send help as well. Loughlin, from the Wind, and Vrael, from the Lightning."
"I swear, I will do as you ask, my lady." replied the Guardian. At once, the massive dragon simply disappeared, melting into the forest. Or did the forest melt into her? The Guardian strode over to Fírnen.
"Who are you? Who was that massive dragon?" Firnen asked.
"I am Arwen, and that was the Gladekeeper. Welcome to the Nature Flight."
