Suggestions

What about some torn and tattered wings? It should also have some stripes with darker coloured background.

The final version would probably also affect the mane and tail in the PC breed.

Primary/secondary ideas:

Tattoo and Imprint

(or Glyphs and Sigils, or whatever)

Designed to complement Runes, without overpowering it.

• They cover the dragon's body and wings with darker or lighter (or accent-colored) markings with the same geometric shape as Runes, as if they were letters in the same language
  
• To avoid clashing with Runes, they don't glow, and they're slightly bigger (larger blocks of color spread out across the dragon's wings and body, as opposed to tiny scribble-looking things that would just look really busy)
  
• The rune shapes can either be arranged in crisscrossing lines, or loops and swirls, or just random placement like alphabet soup
  
• The primary would be designed to avoid clashing with the placement of Runes, but still look good on dragons with Basic or other terts: it would cover the "false underbelly" area that Runes outlines
  
• Some colors would produce interesting "accent color" effects like the ones you see in Poison and Toxin, but there would also be colors that just look really muted, like tattoos that have faded or darkened over time - so you could get a variety of looks with these genes
