I'd personally like to see a lot of "simpler" genes that just put a gradient in the dragon's natural coloring. A lot of animals in the wild with a single-color coat or scales aren't really a single color at all; they often get darker towards the back and paler towards the belly, sometimes dramatically.

So a set of simple genes that just put a gradient effect on the dragons would be nice as a sort of "starter" gene, to move a dragon up past flat-color but not into the dramatic patterned class. Perhaps a few varieties based on location; one that grades from pale-bottom to dark-top, one that's reversed, then pale-front to dark-back, and vice versa as well.

There are plenty of dragons I'd rather not have any strong markings, but I'd like them to not be totally flat-color either, and a simple gradient effect following their natural form would work excellently.

Also, seal-point is a good basic pattern that thousands of animals come in. Siamese cats are a readily recognizable example.

I also think buckskin (like a buckskin stallion, http://images.fineartamerica.com/images-medium-large/buckskin-stallion-left-side-view-cheryl-poland.jpg , with the legs darker than the rest of the body) would be a good basic pattern for dragons.

Basically, I love the ornate patterns (Fowler, my main dragon, is going to be Clown once I work up the dough) but I think there should be some "not quite flat, but not dramatic" options for those who like subtler dragons.

Metalic, calico or banded?

So many cool suggestions! Here's a few more: Caribbean pistol shrimp: This whole pattern is pretty glorious imo. Lightning maroon clownfish: Three guess which flight I chose, and the first two don't count. Striated anglerfish: I just really love that 'lineart' look to the markings. Foxface Lo: Black and white front, primary colored back? Yasha hase goby: I like the idea of white over the body and primary markings Black cap jawfish: Same basic idea as the yasha hase, but with a gradient? Polkadot stingray: Eastern fiddler ray: One of the coolest eagle rays I've ever seen:

Not sure if this has been suggested yet, but albino python would be so cool. And I agree that people would like Piebald, it would be gorgeous.

Glaucus Atlanticus and Wonderpus are two I'd really push for. A fractal tertiary would be really cool, too, in the right color combinations, but it might be a little too intricate to be put into a gene.

Diamondback snake markings .u. And for a minor lineart edit, maybe a little snake tounge hanging out of the dragon's mouth?

Tribal markings would be cool.

Tribal would be a great tertiary gene for sure. We don't have too many of those yet.

Love the idea for radial sunburst style pattern on the first page, as well as gradients.

Somebody suggested Quagga, and I could totally get behind that (I love the Tiger gene!) Or how about an Okapi gene? Subtle shading/striping on the body, then big bold stripes on the legs.

Don't know if anybody's mentioned this––but what about an Orca gene, with a pale eyepatch on the face and a sort of swooping, two-toned wave-shape on the body? I would love to see that, especiially on a Mirror or a Snapper.
