In flight rising, there has to be a way to “get rid” of dragons, otherwise we'd just be drowning in the sheer number of them. Normally, this is done by exalting. However, some people never exalt dragons because it makes them feel bad (like they are killing them). I think if we had a different way to also remove dragons from the site that had a separate lore that might help.
My idea is - what if a crack in the world was discovered… it leads to another realm that only dragons can go to that we cannot follow. And if you allow your dragon to go forth into this new world, they send you back a “gift" to let you know they made the journey safely. This should help with people who feel very attached to their dragons and don't want to feel bad about them leaving. And just like exalting has the image of the dragon on the pedestal, this could have a similar “this dragon has gone to another world” memorial page.
And the gifts that the dragons leave should be items that you cannot get any other way except through this process. Let's call them, for this example, “otherworldly things”. It would be a random thing, varying in rarity, left behind each time a dragon goes. There could be lots of things. Like otherworldly apparel, food, trinkets. Could be cool.

No Support.
Site wise, exalting a dragon just means it goes to serve their elemental deity in the never ending war.
In Sornieth, where this gaming world is set, there are no humans. Dragons are sentient, not pets. The only way a dragon goes to serve the deities is by choice. Not because we clicked a button.
Even if this were, as a new thing, implemented there would be people who woul say that this is a form of dragon "death". Anyway dragons are removed from the game someone will come around saying the dragon is being killed because of the feature.
So basically, this would be the same as exalting, expect you get items instead of treasure and it has no impact on dominance? But it's suppose to 'feel better' than exalting?
No.

Cool idea, but I feel like it would probably just take too much time (that could be used making other new things for the site) to make this a new feature considering people might still think of it just like exalting. Exalting isn’t killing dragons, they just go off to fight the beastclans. I don’t think this other option would change this idea of ‘killing’ dragons when you get rid of them.

Just change your lore from Exalting is going to serve your deity, and instead going off to find new places.
In my lair, the lore states that any exalted dragons are sent to the deep roads to battle and explore and prove themselves.
In the site's lore, exalting isn't death at all. No reason to change something based on a misconception. [emoji=guardian tongue size=2]

So exalting but items? No thanks as we already have exalting which is the greatest honor for a dragon. This new proposed feature wouldn’t change anything as it would still feel like dragon death to those against exalting as the dragon is still permanently (with few exceptions) removed from game play

This is basically exalting reskinned. I don't think we need a redundant mechanic. People with personal issues with exalting will have personal issues with this too.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
That's... exactly what exalting is. The dragon goes to another realm and gives you some stuff as they leave.
If people feel bad about giving their dragon the highest honor a dragon can have and choose to think of it as a bad thing, then the problem is not with the site.

Yeah, no support.
As said, the dragons choose to go and serve their deity. Its not like they get sacrificed or anything.... though I suppose that could be a thing if its your thing.
But that's just it, right? There are so many ways to make Exalting whatever you want it to be. It doesn't have to be the same thing for everyone, at its core, its a mechanic of the game. But you can make it anything with personal clan lore.

The problem is people don't like the idea of their dragon being permanently "deleted", which is basically what exalting is. This is just doing the same thing so we can't see it fixing the problem of people associating exalting/throwing into a portal with death.
Whether they go off to fight in a war and serve their deity or disappear into another dimension they're still permanently gone. If anything it'd make exalting look even worse, why would you need to make an alternative if exalting wasn't killing? :D
