New gene and familiars are cool, but... I would greatly appreciate some word on the eyes.
While I do still hope that staff’s silence is a good thing and not just them ignoring us, if they are looking into a Legacy option, it would be very comforting to hear them actually tell us that. ;__; Even without a release date or knowing how Legacy will be implemented, knowing that we will be getting our dragons’ original eyes back at some point would be a huge weight off my shoulders.
I know they had to redraw the eye templates to fit their new automated colour selection, but I still can’t understand why they didn’t leave the old Common as-is (forgoing standardization, since nobody cared) and use the new templates for the new tints. They could’ve made the new eye types “standardized” and left the originals- the ones people specifically bred and gened dragons for- alone. That would’ve hurt absolutely nobody.
And, like... I’m an artist. I understand wanting to update your old artwork. Some of my ancient art is still in use on another pet site I worked for, and it’s kind of embarrassing to see, haha. But the dragons’ eyes looked perfectly fine; nobody ever went “Ugh, I like the dragon art, but their eyes are hideous! I wish they were flat/blurry with no shading or pupil; that would look a lot nicer”. I can’t see how erasing dragons’ eye details is an “improvement”?????
For things like the old Dented Iron Armor (and related sets), I can understand updating them, since they looked chunky and dated compared to the dragons themselves and most of the other apparel. Dragons’ default eyes looked totally fine, though; they didn’t have thick, clunky, dated lineart and shading like some old apparel or items. They didn’t look out of place on our dragons at all.
(Plus, with apparel, you can just dress your dragon in different clothes. You can’t give your dragon different eyes to match the old ones; the lineart is too different and some Flights don’t even have close tints to begin with. Updating eyes also affects every dragon on the site, whereas apparel updates only affect dragons wearing those particular clothes.)
Along with Guardians and Imperials (and... all breeds really), Pearlcatchers suffered a big loss of definition in their eyes, too. :/ There’s no distinction between the iris and sclera, they have a barely-visible fleck of a pupil, and the white highlight dot just looks kind of... plastic to me. The artwork definitely looks smudged or blurred to me compared to the original, which had a distinct pupil, obvious difference between the iris and sclera, cleaner shading, and softer highlights.

I hate to keep nagging, but with how many people (paying customers, even) were negatively affected by this, I would really, really love to know whether we’re even being listened to or not. :c I’ve got Adblock on (even on mobile) and won’t be buying Gems until this is fixed. Legacy vials (or some old-art option) would be a harmless compromise.
Like Kryda said— why spend money on something that can be taken away from you on a whim?
