TOPIC | Re-release Boolean [Discussion]
If this is not a suggestion that they should un-retire Boolean then why is it in the suggestions forum? Wouldn't it be better served in the Discussions forum?
While you may not want this to be about unretiring vs retiring that is just what it is about. This is about what retired does and will continue to mean on FR. I personally have no problem with retired items staying as such. I actually am not thrilled that because of the clamor nothing else will be retiring. I like retired things, even if I can't have them.
So, no, I do not think if they were to release the Boolean again it would be a good thing. I think it would cause an epic fight for all other retired items to be released. I think people need to stop looking back at what they couldn't get for not being here and look forward to the new things FR is doing daily.
Since a suggestion was made within this thread I will say I am fine with them being moved to a separate bestiary if people are that bothered by it.

Stuff will one day go here.
As someone else said earlier in this thread, the Boolean was kind of a gift to the beta testers of the site, and past getting to play a game early, to my knowledge beta testing is pretty much volunteer work. Fun work, usually, but still work; and one that you don't get paid for. Thus, I think the Boolean from that standpoint shouldn't be re-released, because it was specifically made for the people who helped get the site working in its glitchy baby years. It was a thank-you of sorts, and for me personally I'd want it to stay that way, something special for the people that helped get FR off the ground. :D Same goes for the KS backing stuff, more or less, ethical considerations of recycling those aside (since people paid real money for them, and often substantial amounts of it). If there was another beta test of some sort, however, then I wouldn't be against either a re-release or a new, similar familiar! Both would be fun.
If we wanted to see familiars re-released I'd still be in favor of the festival ones, for the sake of consistency if nothing else (which to me is really important; I'd rather it be all festival items retired or all cycling). However I know that's not the topic at hand, and I'm also afraid to get into it because it's one that quickly gets...uh...heated. On both sides xD
Please don't ping me with the intent of arguing. Civil discussion is something different ^^'

@LunaSea Because while it is a discussion, it is suggesting boolean as an option. Also pretty sure it'd get moved here no matter how I phrased it.
The reason this isn't just un-retiring vs retiring is because since the admins have already shown favor of not-retiring everything (bears, joxar chests) there may come a point where they consider re-releasing even more items. If so - what should they be? Should we take into consideration that Boolean was a gift for people who helped the site start up, or should we go for the items that would have the least negative impact on the player?
If boolean/KS stuff is removed from the beastiary points would have to be re-considered but right now they're just as there as the sprites.
Personally, I still think people will be less outraged that Boolean's specialness is taken away than the sprites even potentially having their value dropped.

Except that the Boolean was a sort of "payment" for a service. That's why I think if the same service is given later (through a closed beta), the Boolean would be an appropriate payment. The holiday items aren't anything special. A Boolean is an award for actually doing something helpful for the site, helpful to get it up and running. The holiday items are more like participation awards.

@MurkyDepths Thanks for clarifying why you chose this forum. In my opinion they have made it quite clear things that are retired will be staying that way but that they have decided to no longer retire things. In the case of the bears it was voted on by users I believe, it was just before my arrival, Joxars also in my opinion was a way to appease the people who were always trying to get things un-retired by offering no further retiring items.
I believe that no matter which retired item it is that there will be a great deal of outrage from one side or the other. If the Boolean why not Sprites? Why not all the apparel? etc.
As to the Boolean specifically its' specialness is revered to me. If I see a user with a Boolean they make me grateful to have FR (the same way I feel about KS etc.) While I will never have one (and I am a wee bit of a familiar collector) I am very okay with that. Heck, I still want to reward KS and Beta people for giving me a game that I love with all my heart. A community beyond any other and beautiful art. To take that item away and make available to all would no longer be representative of its meaning.
As to what would cause the least outrage I suppose it would be the Guardians. We had a much larger player base to receive them and since they were known to be retiring many, such as myself, stocked up as an investment. But I would still be livid if they went back on what Retired means. It would lose all meaning and become "retired until users create enough chaos to bring them back" in the minds of many.
But as with others I think we will have to respectfully agree to disagree.

@Almedha I do agree with that, but think most people are bothered by what affects them the most. The 100 or so people with a boolean vs the hundreds with sprites.
(Please note when in typing this reply, I'm using a general "you" and I am trying not to single any one individual out!)
I don't really understand what the issue is with bringing x (KS Rewards, Boolean, Sprites) out of retirement. You were not here for x (the kickstarter, beta testing, playing an unstable site that crashed frequently and made it difficult to earn currency to buy fest items). All of these things are rewards for being there at the time. I understand that it really sucks to not have known about FR or not have been able to sign up beforehand so you could get these rewards, but you were not here so you cannot get them.
It's very similar to a friend going on vacation to another country, buying a souvenir, and when you get a chance to go the next year, you find out that country no longer makes the souvenir and the only time to get it was the year prior. The company that makes it does not want to make it anymore because it will devalue the others its already sold. They've retired the design and you're out of luck unless you can find one on ebay or your friend sells theirs. And maybe it's not fair because you couldn't go last year even though you really wanted to. Maybe a family member passed away, you couldn't afford it, or you slept in on your flight day. But you didn't go. Your friend did. They flew, went, dealt with the flight struggles, and paid for the item, so they got the item.
FR has retired items. People get outraged because they can't put in enough time and effort to a pet site to buy those items. And I understand, but if you want that item, that's the work it takes now. A lot of un-retirement supporters say "but I'd still work for the item. It's just too expensive now." But... A lot if things are expensive now. If you really can't live without it, then you can find the time to save up or you can be less concerned with a virtual pet game that you don't play frequently enough (regardless of circumstances) anyway.
The Boolean achievement was already made worth 0 points so people wouldn't be upset that they can't max achievement points.FR made the decision to never re-release both KS (because real money) and Sprites (because Year One items were decided to be retired). I just don't really understand the backlash against this. :V

The tyranny of the majority is what got us the non-retiring bears situation that has been heavily commented on and the current staff response of "festival items will no longer retire" Joxar boxes.
At this point I no longer care if anything site-created retires or not. I would simply like to point out how retiring/non-retiring items have affected the userbase. Most of the arguments I've seen have reduce down to "I want one so increase my chances of getting one" or "work harder than the other people who want one" depending on what side of the argument you're coming down on.
For comparison purposes, a different pet site released their own beta test reward--a breedable pet that sold for around 3k gems (equivalent) at the time of release. It's now worth about 45g if anyone were willing to buy any. In order to get that reward you had to give up your account progress (but keep your items). The consensus afterwards was that if you'd put in minimal effort during beta (create an account and play for a few hours) the bugs were the better deal but for those who played a few hours every day the progress was a better deal.

Have you checked the Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in 5g?

ToonKuriboh Does your friend has a seller lined up? Don't quote me on this but I've heard there were only 100 or so beta testers. Estimating a price for the boolean is so difficult because nobody's really willing to sell. I'd be interested to know a 'solid' price for them (other than trading other KS stuff like imperial scrolls)
[/quote]
@MurkyDepths the last one that sold was around 700kg. But that was in January of 2015
These is about 150 beta testers, but not sure how many use the boolean code, and how many in locked accounts. I recommend you read this post, it will give you a better idea how almost impossible it is to get a boolean.
