TOPIC | Can we PLEASE make an Exalt Shop
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... 16 17
The dragon market is so painfully slow that it makes me want to break teeth. Triple gene dragons are selling for pennies and this is arguably the worst it has been. Newbies don't like/don't know about coli grinding so they don't want to exalt their dragons if they're just going to get 1k for their dragon. Other people don't have patience for the grinding so they sell their dragons cheaply, too. There needs to be an appeal to exalting base-value dragons.

An Exalt Shop would be meant to build the appeal of dragons at their base value (meaning basic, non-trained, and non-gened dragons). Newbies join and frantically breed and try to sell their dragons for incredibly cheap. The appeal for exalting is basically zero unless your flight is participating in the dominance. The past dominance fights have been glorious, but they're just temporary fixes to the dragon economy, just like registration windows.

The Exalt Shop would work like this:
For every dragon exalted, regardless of level, colour, species, etc. would get at least one point. Just one point towards the Exalt Shop.

Common dragons (Mirrors, Fae, Tundra, and Guardians) get just one point.
Uncommon Dragons (Ridgeback, Pearlacatcher, Snaper, Spiral, and Skydancer) get two points.
Rare dragons (Imperial, Coatl, and Wildclaws) get 3 points.

This will create the necessary price gap between dragons based on their rarity. Right now the rare dragons are being sold for the same price as the other dragons and that's not fair since people spend real life money on getting those breed scrolls and then they have to sell up to... well, assuming each gem is 500 treasure each, that'd be 1m treasure for one breed scroll, and if dragons are selling for 2k, then a person would have to sell... 500 dragons to cover the cost of the scroll. :T

The appeal to the Exalt Shop will be the unique items only obtainable through the shop (or from buying them from the users who have bought them from the shop). The cheapest item should be... maybe 50 points. Possibly 100 since I know how... enthusiastic we all are when exalting for things. Heh.

It should be a range of items from food to apparel, from battle items to skins. All sorts of goodies. Even throw in a special treasure chest item to give those gamble junkies something to work for.

The Exalt Shop is not a quick-fix idea. It will have long-lasting effects on the marketplace. If we circle out items like we do with the gem shop items then there will always be an appeal for the items in there.

tl;dr:
MAKE AN EXALT SHOP BECAUSE IT'S A RLY RLY GOOD IDEA AND WILL MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY.

I'd love an exalt shop. However, I think exalt points (or whatever they'll be called) should be a little rarer to prevent the exalt shop from winding up worthless. I like how Subeta does Quest Points--something like that, but for exalting.

@Outsane - and anyone else who is interested

On Subeta, the best form of earning money is through "questing." There's half a dozen NPCs who offer quests; fetch a certain item(s) and they give you (hopefully) more expensive items/money in return. But Subeta was struggling with inflation, so they came up with Quest Points. There's now a Quest Shop with special items only sold there (themed after the NPCs). However, this shop only accepts a unique currency used no where else on site; Quest Points. Users earn QP by doing quests. Based on my experience, it seems to be 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 quest grants a QP. The items in the shop aren't -super- pricey with QP, but it does take a few days of work to start buying. And another thing, QP are non transferable; there's no way to sell or trade them to other users.

I say I'd like Exalt Points to be a bit rarer than a strict 1 to 1 ratio because I've encountered users who exalt -hundreds- of dragons during a dom push. Those users would wind up with hundreds of exalt points inside a week, buying exalt shop items, and flooding the market--ultimately it would become cheaper to buy the items directly rather than exalt dragons, which eliminates the dragon sink the shop would be designed to be in the first place. Plus it'd quickly increase the advantage between players who exalt farm and those who see exalting as dragon death (and sadly, this idea can't cure that perception...and I don't know if any tweaking really could).

I do think something needs to be done to encourage exalting. One way to prevent items from flooding the game is have the rewards from the exalt shop account locked so that they only way to buy them is via exalting.

I am a big fan of Fayd's overhaul as it attempts to correct the perception of players who see exalting as death and it adds a lot to the lore of the site while encouraging exalting. One component is an exalt shop in the form of using Grace (currency) to buy Sacraments (rewards)

I like the idea of account-locking the items too.

I'm going to be entirely heartless and say that it's no fault of anyone's if people see exalting as dragon death, thus they refuse to exalt. They aren't majorly contributing to it, but selling dragons for dirt cheap rather than exalting because they feel bad for doing it doesn't help the market.

And I'm not saying your idea is bad, I am just concerned with the chances that people would be discouraged. You see how people get ticked off that dodging in coli happens a lot. That's based on a bit of chance. Not a lot of people are going to risk exalting a rare dragon for nothing but 1k treasure, thus the prices will just balance out when I feel that they need to fluctuate.

A possible idea would be to make it so that the common dragons have a chance to not get a point, the uncommon dragons have a slightly less chance to not get two points, and the rare dragons are guaranteed to get their points no matter what.

@DragonSage

I'm incredibly biased against account-locking in general because it discourages gifting as well. Sometimes people don't do stuff strictly for profit and to have these rare and coveted items account-locked would be a shame to those who are generous and want to give people a gift.

Yeah, that is true--rarity levels could play into the frequency of Exalt Points. I like that idea as opposed to the Exalt Shop items costing a lot of EP, which does put casual exalters (or those who help in dom pushes through other means than exalting) at a noticeable disadvantage.

Account-locked Exalt Points but not items, different items in each Flight's shop, and a chance of points rather than guaranteed points per exalt, perhaps with higher-rarity breeds having a higher chance than lower-rarity breeds.
