I support this! Another good thing that would come of this is if someone changed their username, and you were unaware of this. If they change their name now, you wouldn't be able to tell who they were in the auction house... Unless you constantly look at the list of users you've blocked.
I don't really understand why people wouldn't support a feature that goes far to make people more comfortable on the site, especially those of us heavily affected by someone's bigotry. It's a feature that would be a CHOICE to utilize or not, after all. People who don't care, or don't have serious reasons to block someone, wouldn't need to utilize the block system.
Those of us who just want to avoid any of those sorts of people on our fun, chill-out site would very much appreciate it though.

I think you're reading too much into what I said - nothing was meant to be rude. I apologize if my wording was as such - English is not my first language and often I chose wording that is not entirely correct.
I was not implying anyone was childish. I was simply stating that people do need to look at things in a way where problems can be taken care of by their own selves, and this is just one of those things. I WOULD support a potential for checkboxes. I wouldn't support it just being an automatic thing.
Please don't jump down my throat and assume I'm being rude. I am sorry I came off that way.

I didn't realize that English was your second language, and I apologize. Unfortunately how you did word some of it came off really...demeaning to those that support this.
Connotation is not easily read through text, and unfortunately I'm used to people purposely and constantly being rude at each other, so my reaction was from general experience, not necessarily you doing any wrong.

I wouldn't want to miss out on things in the AH that I may want just because some people didn't want to purchase things from those users they had blocked. I don't have any issue with giving money to someone I've blocked, and I wouldn't want that option taken away from me. If I want to buy from someone I've blocked, that's my business, and I don't want them wiped off the face of the AH.
If it's that big of a deal to you, then this is something that you need to take care of yourself - have your list open, read the name, avoid the seller. The vast majority of us are adults, and I think that we all need to take responsibility as adults instead of trying to get things like this to suit our needs... be aware, take your own cautions, and go on with your FR life. (:[/quote]
No. Every other website I've used has had an adequate blocking feature that fully blocked out other users when used. Other pet sites manage to have blocking systems that involve buying/selling, breed requests, trading, etc. Flightrising could and should implement this.
Blocking a person would be taking responsibility. That's why a better blocking system is needed. When it comes to wanting to avoid racists, homophobes, transphobes, misogynists- WE shouldn't have to be the ones required to constantly tip-toe around them and keep constant check on what their username is and what they sell.
Honestly, any bigotry at all should be a bannable offense on this site. But it's not, at least there's a certain level of severity the mods seem to think is necessary before its worth any action from them. That's why a blocking system is important.

I think this is a great idea. There are some users on this site who I have blocked, but would be very happy to deal with, and others who I've blocked because I want nothing to do with them whatsoever.
Perhaps if this idea was implemented there could be a checkbox next to your list of blocked users. Then you could select the users whose sales you did not want to see on the AH.
You'd get the best of both worlds then as it would be possible to choose which users' sales you did not want to see and which ones you did.

I have two people on my block list and I don't want to get involved with them in any way. They should just be hidden.
I don't want to buy anything from them and they shouldn't be able to buy from me either.

Support. If someone is on my block list, there is a very, very good reason for it, and I want them as edited out of my user experience as possible.

10 hours ahead of FR time -- may be slow to respond to messages
One of the biggest issues with the system of "Just have the list open in another window" is that it doesn't take into account mobile devices where this is either not possible (depending on the device support) or even just unknown (depending on user knowledge). But beyond just that, it puts the onus on the blockee, who's simply trying to avoid dealing with people who might have, say, called for their entire ethnic group/race to be killed.
Having the names highlighted would be a good start, with an option to block them entirely. I quite honestly do not want the people I've blocked to be a part of my FR experience - a place I go to have fun, not deal with known racists/pedos/etc.
Not having a sitewide block feature inhibits my ability to participate in heavy rapidfire dominance pushes - if I have to check from a list in the middle of a hard week end buying spree I will not snap up that dragon who will soon serve my deity. Dominance is a big deal to some users, and this impacts them directly.
Not having a sitewide block feature means that someone who - again, has expressed interest in having a race of people exterminated - has a point of contact with me that forces ME to take responsibility for their actions, rather than simply allowing me to avoid their presence in any meaningful way.
Not having a sitewide block feature puts the burden on me to continually watch out for username changes.
Not having a sitewide block feature means that I have to keep a separate tab open at all times that I'm in the AH for my block list to make sure I'm not buying from someone I consider odious. Every single time I want to buy a dragon, or a piece of apparel, or a few points of seafood, I am continually having to compare a list of names with the AH screen, and again, this impacts my use of this site directly if I want to avoid supporting these people in any way.
Someone on your blocked users list may have just annoyed you, and therefore you're more than willing to still do business with them without seeing their words - great! But I don't block casually, and would rather that I never see these people again anywhere. Nothing about that is childish, nor displays a level of not taking personal responsibility on my part.
Blocking them from the marketplace as well could be an opt in feature, allow someone to pick and choose how they want to interact with someone they've blocked. Choosing to just have their name highlighted would help, with an option to cut them out of your FR life completely would be even better, and in my case, preferred.
I really appreciate the suggestions that people have made for how to implement something like this! And doubly appreciative to know I'm not alone. :)

Supporting the fading-out of names or a twofold block scheme otherwise. I have had people blocked for rather-ostentious harassment(she had been sending me PMs heckling me for joining a site of a person she disliked, as well as openly admitting she was doing the same thing to said person to bully her off the site) so I would rather not have any dealings with these people whatsoever. Of course, those disagreeing are right that we should self-regulate and all. I still think it's better for a twofold block scheme to occur to prevent accidental dealings or even more harassment.
Also out of curiosity @
Lissote, does this suggestion cover mutual blocking? Cuz I know for certain
someone has blocked me so I blocked them back and thus I was wondering if that was under your consideration.

Dunno much about mutual blocking @
dracoon - since I block for pretty extreme stuff. I imagine that it would work the same as regular blocking, though, where neither of you would see anything at all involving the other.
At least, that'd be the goal :D
I'm sorry to hear that you were getting bullied, that kind of behavior is completely unacceptable.
